Upper Deck Really HAS Run Out Of Ideas

Thank you to someone with some sense. Anything that adds value to a box is a good thing. I wish they add some more value to my recent SPx box.

Im all for it even though i think its dumb as long as these are added ON TOP of the hits already in it. Imagine if u get one less notable and one of these instead. Also why do they need to be in 4 sets why not just one?

UD has for some time now been adding special non-sport (Presidential Predictors) and all-sports (20th Anniversary) inserts into their baseball products. They tend to go over fairly well among collectors and they do generate a solid short-term interest. This one, while on the surface seems ill-conceived judging by the many responses I've read here and elsewhere, will fit within that same mold. There are people out there who will collect these - I know that if I end up with any, my mom likes figure skating so she can have 'em. If skater X wins a gold medal, put them up on the Bay and make a few bucks. UD's timing on these is solid, as I just got word from my LCS owner yesterday that UD2 comes out February 16th, which just so happens to be the same date as the first preliminary round hockey matchups at the Olympics.

I don't see the big deal. We're talking about figure skaters in the post, but in actual fact it's a set with a ton of Olympic Athletes..... amoung which are a bunch of figure skaters.

Is this something that really interests me? No.... but there has been more and more non-Hockey cards getting inserted into hockey products. I don't see the harm in adding Olympians to the UDS2 product at all. Magazine Exchange has the full checklist up (no Young Guns yet). There's skiiers, speed skaters, figure skaters, woman's hockey..... and that's just the names I recognize.

I want my 6 young guns & two GU per box. I like the Victory Updates in every pack (with every-other one being a rookie). Give me a shot a Press Plates, Excusives, HG. I'll be after the Messier Heros cards. The other inserts I'll just end up trading or selling anyway..... so if Upper Deck wants to pack in some Olympians along with it, go for it.

Honestly - While "Rachael Flatt and Jeremy Abbott" may not be high on my priority list of things to get from a box break..,..... would their autos be worth any less to me (for sale or trade) than another Signature Sensations of Mike Lundin?
