    I'll put a +1 on that :)

As I think I said in my first post - when you're only missing the few cards, it's hard to add anything new, and frustrating that you can't. What I've found eases that frustration - find other memorabilia to add to the collection.

Obviously that becomes very open ended, but I'll give a couple of examples of what I've picked up recently..... pocket schedules for each season / team Ranford played for..... still missing a few, but picked up most of them...... and a program from the 1985 NHL Draft (the year he was taken).

Anyways my advice is just to have fun because there are so many cards you can grab right now. The bad thing about a collection nearing completion is there is not much stuff to chase and it comes up very rarely which slows down your trading. It is very rewarding to find one of these cards but it still is bittersweet because i do that so rarely.

My guy has nowhere near the numbers all you guys have to collect. I think The King only has around 250 cards released (and that includes 1/1's, lol). This makes collecting Broduer fairly easy. There are few people (save for a certain owner of another card site) that I have to compete with when his cards pop up on the Bay. Even here, I find most people are happy to "get rid" of their Brodeur's. So basically, I try to grab every card of his I can get my hands on. If I tried to do a Player PC of say the Sedins, then I would probably have to sing a different tune as their cards are nacho grande, both in terms of quantity and the price I would have to pay (for the low numbered cards anyways). It is hard though when a card is in your sites and the trade doesn't happen or you get outbid, I hate that....but like with all things that don't go my way.....I just move on and hope another pops up. I just went through this with a Masterpiece Blue border Brodeur.

I also team collect on the side. I have the same motivation that Sean (Ranfordfan) does.....I try to get at least one base, GU and auto of every Canucks player that I can. This keeps me busy when the Brodeur cards run dry for a bit.

Something 30Ranfordfan said rang very true for me. He mentioned that during college collecting became harder and he was only able to pick up singles and what not.

I'm in college right now, and that absolutely has shaped my collecting habits. I don't have unlimited funds. I'm not going to be able to snatch up every Lidstrom patch out there, but I can pick up some nice things every now and then. To scratch the itch otherwise, I trade for whatever other Lidstrom stuff I can get.

My goal is purely number driven. I'm fine with picking up mid 90s base that I need. Adding sheer numbers to my Lidstrom PC lets me feel involved in the hobby, and I get a lot of enjoyment out of that. In a few years I'll (hopefully) have a job, and I can imagine that my collecting habits will shift more towards the way charvey9 collects Lids (quality over quantity). But for now, I just like adding to my collection in any way I can.

So what's from 1986-87? A sticker? Something produced by the Kings themselves?

14 from '87-88 surprises me as well.

Personally, my current goal is to get 1 of every Tim Kennedy card that isn't a 1/1 and then my longterm goal is to get one full set of 4 plates and the Cup Black 1/1 along with every new Kennedy card that comes out. Right now as he isn't very popular yet, this goal seems pretty attainable but since it's only his first FULL year in the NHL, who knows when his career may take off. I don't have a huge budget and since there's only two more cards of his (minus 1/1s) that I need, I'm just busting random wax here and there and hoping to get something good that I can use to trade for new Kennedy stuff when it comes out in SPGU and SPA.

I'm in your boat for sure, Earl has i think 126 cards including 1/1's, so its not too difficult lol, and same, i always have Leafs base/inserts/parallels to rely on such as now when Earl cards i need are getting tough to find or too expensive to afford

Yeah, a side or back up project keeps things interesting. If I have nothing to chase, I loose interest easily....darn A.D.D., lol....I also have a Lettermen side-side project that seems to be keeping me very busy lately.....

We are pretty much in the exact same place collecting wise. I just recently bought a game used stick and also the last jersey Steen ever wore as a leaf!! So i was pretty excited about that and i also have started tracking down oddball stuff. I just picked up a steen pin and a toronto sun medallion of steen as well so i know what you are talking about.

To the OP just HAVE FUN while you can dont worry about numbers.

as some of you know I collect Ovechkin, so it can get pricey to say the least. In order for me to collect his cards, I check the UD website for the list of his cards that he has coming out in each release (usually 5-10 cards per set), then I take out all the patch and auto cards. They go for too much, then I take out any cards numbered to less than 25. So I get lots of base ovechkin cards and jersey cards basically, the only cards I splurge on is anything from the Cup or ITG. Just thought I'd share my thoughts on collecting a superstar player.

I'm basically just trying to get one of each of Kris Russell's cards and not worrying a ton about the 1/1's. It helps that not many people collect Russell. There is one guy who messaged me that he collects Russell and is willing to trade/sell of his collection to me which includes BAP 1/1, 7 printing plates, and a few other low numbered cards I haven't seen for sale yet. I basically try to pick up anything I can that I feel is at a fair value. Some cards I pass on b/c the person wants way too much for. I'm just hoping to get to 100% minus 1/1's and I'll be happy. I'm doing pretty well for only collection him for 4 months.
