Been collecting since 1977. That was my first year that I had a decent amount of cards built up. I think it has always been in my blood as my mom has a picture of me at the beach when i was maybe 4 and i am holding a 1973 baseball card in my hand. Who knows how i got that. I have tried on more than one occassion to get rid of everything that i had but wound up getting back in. I have set up at shows in the late 80's early 90's and was heavily involved when basketball, football and hockey took off. Remember when those things sold for pennys. Nobody wanted them. I am starting to collect vintage again and bust open new product because it is fun and gives you a rush. I hang on to only a few newer items and sell or trade the rest. It is definitely a hobby that will be with me forever.

I guess I probably started because of my brothers. When I was like 5 my older brother collected baseball cards, when I was around 7 he switched to hockey, a few years later he quit. Now I collect hockey, and I really got into it 2 or 3 years ago.

Investment - not main reason - mostly you'll lose money if this is what you're doing.
I also used to be somewhat of a loner but I do have a few friends. Collecting can be a temporary escape from real life, which is another reason I and many other collect. This is both good and bad as it can be part of avoiding life.
