Sound great bud! I suggest you should check out bodybuilding.com. And no, the site is not just for bodybuilders. It gives you great tips for dieting and different exercises. It's also great to learn about different supplements and nutrition ideas. Don't be afraid of trying supplements either. Most help you on your goals(but make sure you know what your putting into your own body. I also suggest to stay away from most juices since 90% are filled with sugar. Also remember to do some esistance training, not just cardio since the more muscle you have thae faster you will burn the fat away. Do cardio three times a week for about 30 minutes as soon as you wake up. The optimum time for losing fat is the first thing in the moring on an empty stomach(although you may lose a very small percentage more of muscle mass). I also reccomend to not step on a scale every day. Once a week at the most for the first little while. Instead look at yourself in the mirror and asses your improvement that way. Maybe take a picture and compare along the way of your journey. Just remember that it's hard work. Rome wasn't built in a day and you won't be either. I wish you all the best and please keep us updated!!

Its fine with me to post weight loss for those of us who are working on it.
I am 6' tall and have been up to 387 a year and a half ago. With yo-yo dieting and eating over the last year i am 365 now, and just this week started getting serious about my weight and exercise. My problem is that at age 62 i have to be carefull about what exercising i can do, but walking and light weights and rubber bands are okay, just in moderation. Its amazing what age does to you.
I will post every Monday in this thread (or another one if someone starts an official weight loss thread) my weight, as thats the one time each week i will be weighing myself. I urge others to do the same.

Small correction here: pasta actually isn't a high glycemic carb. A high glycemic carb causes your sugar to rise rapidly and then crash after a mere hour or two. Pasta, on the other hand, causes your sugar to rise gradually for several hours (try 4-6), causing a slower spike into the upper echelons of blood sugar levels. A high glycemic carb would be more along the lines of simple sugars like glucose tablets - the kind of stuff diabetics take when our sugars drop low and we need to bring it up in a hurry.
Anyway, your advice about weight gain is true. Excess calories of any kind can cause weight gain, including carbs. I used to think there was no real connection between carbs and weight gain, but I've since learned otherwise.

All the best to you and remember a few things
1. never say diet diests are garbage, they never have and never will work. Think lifechange
2. If you must snack on something late at night go with a negative calorie food like celery
3. never ignore your urges you cannot completely tune out the junk foods entirely but if you eat healthy 80% of the time you can allow yourself treats to help prevent any bingeing
4. cut down/out red meats or heavy foods, focus on foods that are easily absorbed and passed into/thru your body.
5. walk walk walk, you really do not have to hit the gym to have effetcive weightloss. I have done just fine with lot of walking, find a group in your area you can join as it makes it easier when you are around others in the same boat. Me and the wife recently joined a recreational hiking group and as though as i thought it would be it wasnt that bad having others around to chat with and such
6. spices and herbs, not really any added health benifits per say but its nice to be able to change up the flavors on chicken and fish to make it seem like your not eating the same foods
7. NO SALT NO SODA (EVEN DIET) NO ARTIFICAL SWEETNERS, all very very very bad
8. sleep at least 8 hours
9. positivity is the key if you believe in your weight loss then it will happen your brain is your best friend in your battle
At 14 i was 5'9ish and almost 200 lbs, after reaching 6' peaked at around 260-70ish up thry my early 30's but now at 36 after about a serious 1.5 years I range from 184-188 lbs I just need to figure out a good toning regiment to tighten everything up

dude great goal. I would recomend not drinking juice (its a huge SUAGAR BOMB) or milk.
Its not really how much you eat its what you eat. Eat a salad with a chicken breast, pork chop or steak and a side of veggies. Buy some low carb protien shakes and bars for snacks.
Once you drink a glass of juice your metabolism is totally jacked up. It might make you gain even if you're doing really good.
I just started a diet myself, 6'2" 285 and lost 25 lbs in the first month.

ohh yeah and dont use the word diet for the first two weeks. It makes it too easy to give into your urges to break the "diet". If you arent on a "diet" you cant break the "diet". Just look at it like a lifestyle change to get motivated and at the start just cut out all the crap food and add something healthy and cut down on portions. You will loose 10 lbs in the first 10 days for sure if you do that.
No crap, smaller portions and EAT A SALAD for petes sake lol. Ohh yea with dressings

Good luck buddy.
Not only will it help your physical health, it will also improve your mental health as well!
If I could recommend anything for exercising I would recommend swimming or bike riding.
