    WHAT IF......................

Columbus won the 2005 Draft #1 overall pick
The Blue Jackets would have a heck of a team

Quebec didnt trade off Lindros just because he didnt want to play for them
He goes back into the draft 2 years later, and the Senators take him instead of Daigle.

McSorley didnt have a curved stick (Haha- had to throw that one in)
    Kings still lose.

    Quebec didnt move to Colorado
Then the Cup never happens for them. No way Roy gets traded within the province.

No one can afford the 10 million $ man Kovalchuk.....(oh wait - that is currently happening)
Yet to be seen.... might still happen. Maybe it's not about the money, and he plays for 7 mil per

    What if....

    Crosby was a bust
The Pens wouldn't be nearly as good

The Illitch family did not buy the "Dead Wings"
Someone else would have - and made a load of cash instead

    Gretzky wasn't traded
He would have walked as a Free Agent

Messier didn't help end the Ranger's drought
Mike Richter & Adam Graves' careers wouldn't be so highly regaurded

Datsyuk and Zetterberg weren't even drafted
They sign on as Free Agents, somewhere

Detroit chose LaFontaine instead of Yzerman
LaFontaine was chosen before Yzerman, impossible. Wasn't Detroit's call to make

    Orr was also a bust...
Greatest Player ever agument is even more slanted towards Gretzky

Howe had a career ending injury
Greatest Player ever agument is even more slanted towards Gretzky

Konstantinov didn't get in the limo crash
Goes down as one of the best dmen of the 90s

Lidstrom became an engineer instead of a hockey player (that is what he was going to be if hockey didn't work out)
He doesn't go into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

    There was no salary cap
The Leafs would be spending $120 on payroll, and still missing the playoffs

    Gretzky wasn't great
    He be amazing

What if Ovechkin played with a legal stick?
    He'd still score in bunches

What if the Canucks were in the Eastern time zone?
The Eastern time zone would be the largest in the world

What if the Pens and Blackhawks didn't suck for 5 years in a row each
They would have sucked for 6 years in a row

What if they actually called any penalty on Gretzky (especially high sticking)
Doug Gilmour likely would have scored on his own net, during the ensuing powerplay, and the Leafs still would have lost the game

    ... there wasn't a lockout.
The 05-06 Season wouldn't have been nearly as exciting.

Bettman wasn't commish (mind you... it would be a GOOD thing no matter what)
The NHL would have found an alternate lawyer to impliment its agenda, and
we'd be in exactly the same place we are now

The NHL let Jim Balsillie buy a NHL team?
It would show they're certifiably fools.

I honestly thought some of those were funny, but yet some of them were sorta true to. Nice reply :D lol

    What if...

The Coyotes didn't have a playoff drought?

What if hockey was played in a larger arena, with 4 teams and 4 nets, with all 4 teams playing at once?

What if Martin St. Louis were 7 feet tall?

What if there were 2 pucks?

Yeah - a lot of the answers were supposed to be, at least, a little sarcastic. Also couldn't resist taking a couple of shots at the Leafs

A few were more serious answers though. (I don't think the trade in 1988 is why Gretzky didn't play his whole career in Edmonton. He would have been gone in 2 or 3 years anyway...... I don't think Bettman is to 'blame' for a lot of the things he gets accused of. He's just the front man for the owners, and would have been fired a long time ago if he wasn't so good at his job (which is to put their agenda in place). The 'what if Crosby sucked?' or 'what if Pittsburgh didn't have him?' style questions, or as they apply to any other player, are pretty obvious. You can say that about any superstar, on any team, through history).

As for the Coyotes - Without the long playoff drought (let's say they're as good as the Predators have been over the last 10 years) I would imagine the franchise would be much healthier. In the black? Maybe not... but they wouldn't be in the shape they're in.

As critical as everyone is of the NHL for going into some markets - what they always fail to point out is that there are only half a dozen, or so, teams that could survive a decade of last place teams. Being a bunch of perpetual losers would put any NHL team not located in TOR, MON, NYR, MIN, or PHI in dire straights. Even a couple of those are iffy.

What separates these situations from the ones in zunato's thread are that his hypotheticals are geared towards possible future trends in the hobby, whereas y'all are proposing counterfactual history. The former is filled with stuff that could happen, while the latter cannot truly be answerable.

What if... card company's only inserted 1 game used or auto per case?

I dont think this one will ever happen - Maybe 1 PATCH per case but I highly doubt a jersey will ever be one per case - ever

What if there were 2 pucks?

I think Hockey would turn into a pinball game -

He scores on a 1-timer from the top of the circle, 16 seconds later.
