Vintage to me is when OPC started putting cards back into their Gum, 1969. but most 70's stuff to 1989 still passes for vintage today.

I loved it when somebody on here called my 2001-02 cards - "Old School"

I like dabbling in the new stuff, but all I really collect are Yankees and vintage baseball. My '56 Mantle and '55 Jackie Robinson are my favorites. Nothing like holding a card that's 48 years old!

I'm picking some vintage stuff for my teams PCs when I get trade opportunities. Landed a low-grade Coffey RC today.

Who else has been following this crazy auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370879594960...84.m1423.l2649 ?

I know it's not usually cool to post links to auctions, but this isn't my set, and for the sake of vintage-loving, that's an unbelievable random storage locker find! I'm following along just to see what it goes for.

I'm agreeing with Bill 100%..........After looking at eBay and dealers tables over the past few years I'm of the opinion that 70/71 seems to be a cut-off, with 71/72 slowwwwwwlyyyyy creeping out of the 25-cent commons category..........the 72/73 OPC hi-numbers are an exception of course, but they've always been that way.

I've also noticed that there's still a TON of 70's product still available out there even for all those cards that got thrown against the school walls.

Kevin nailed it on the head!!!!

People nowadays like to see who they are busting out of the packs. It's as simple as that!!! Would kids or adults, who are busting products like The Cup, SP Authentic or SPX, nowadays rather pull a Gretzky or a Crosby. Simple answer.....Crosby!! Would they rather pull an Ovechkin or a Lemieux......my bets are on Ovy!! It's just the way of the land. 10 years from now would you rather pull a Taylor Hall or a Brodeur....I'm thinking Hall....no?

It's just simple logic. But I get a HUGE chuckle outta people who thinks there is no market for hi-end vintage. It's hilarious..........

Nah, most would rather get gretzky than crosby...
Lemieux or Ovi, probably lemieux by a bit...
Brodeur or hall....that one is not even close...brodeur now and forever.

maybe we should have a poll

"Old" players in modern cards are well liked...

Vintage is alive at shows and big auctions on ebay.
Graded psa sells very well, that's pretty obvious.

I can't stand em! If I want cards of players that are retired, I will go buy an old box. It really sucks when you buy a box of new cards, open a pack, and 4 out of the 5 cards in the pack are retired! I don't mind the rare insert subset, but why make commons of guys that aren't playing? I would much rather have cards of 2nd or 3rd line players, rather than the same 50 players + 40 retired stars.

I agree, one reason I liked Fleer's sets from 2001 and 2002, it had old players... not necessarily common ones.

Vintage is, was and always will be the best. I don't consider anything less than 30 years old to be considered vintage. My collection covers from pre NHL up until the glut of over prodution starting in the nineties. I have a couple thousand 1950's cards that I am willing to trade but only for items I don't already have. I have in person Auto.s from H.O.F. players that were retired or dead before Gretzky was born. So add me to the list of vintage collectors. As for those who collect the new stuff they do it for the perceived value not the historical value. They are victims of over production and mass marketing. Don't believe me? What is that super rare 1/1 prism, holographic, patch, game used, stick, auto, Mckinnion worth today. How many "rookie" cards does he have? A few thousand? There is and should be only one or two rookies based on the number of manufacturers. How about the Last "superstar" to enter the league Taveras? What is his rookie worth? Less than a 53-54 common I would bet. Enjoy your collecting preference but I will always be a vintage collector!!!!
