My opinion.. I'd never break them out of their slab. To me, that's how they come and that's how they should stay. Same with cards that have a protective film, etc. Those stay on or in my opinion it de-values the card. Regardless of it's PC or not.. I shudder every time I hear of someone cracking open the slab.

This topic has been beaten to death. Dr. Price himself even said that he never invisioned for people to keep them in the toploader. They are only put in toploaders to ensure they are kept safe during the packout process. They even perforate the sticker so they are easy to open. I only have 3 Superlative cards in my PC (Kris Russell Prospect jersey/auto, and 2 of the gold versions) and they were put into one touches where they should be.

I currently plan to send my Superlative cards to be slabbed by BGS (or another grading company, only to have the cards slabbed like my ITG UM cards). If ITG would accept to slab any ITG cards for a fee ($10-20/card), I would send my Superlative cards to ITG to have them slabbed. I do not understand how an expensive card can stay in a cheap top loader for the next 20 years... top loaders aren't made to long-term collectibles.

edit: however, the cards that I am not sure to keep in my collection for the long-term run, I keep them in the cheap sealed top loaders, for my tradebait.

i agree totally with what your saying..i have three superlative cards that are too high end to stay in a top loader..

victor hedman prospect emblem /auto 1/1

    john tavares prospect emblem/auto 1/1

jumbo emblem ovechkin letter c from capitals 3/9

i couldn't imagine keeping cards like that in top loaders..but itg states that if you remove the card from the original seal they are not responsible if it is damaged...

I think some member mix hard platic slab cards and the top loader version with a plactic sticker round seal. The problem with the second is the protection is not enought to keep them safe from dust, glue from the sticker itself, etc... RTG also made very valid point. Some will devalues them but if I find a card I need and it's not sealed, it will not make a difference for me. I also like to see the card condition and that packaging garanty nothing since small dust may get in and scratch the card. A seal kind of prevent you to verify the card and give you no garanty. If the card top loader is scratch then you need to leave the card in it, I would not. Remember that slab card have bigger border them the surface so the surface does not touch. top loader touch every surface you put them on.

Looking at the poor protection, it will create the one that want it mint with sticker and they will pay more for them. Just a poor decision on ITG part in the first place to produce them with a sticker seal...

Those ITG circular stickers they use on the top loaders for Superlative, have a chance of breaking anyways, if you look closely they are perforated so they bend half for them to seal the top loader. Unless they are in a team bag which is then more diffuclut to store in the card boxes, the seals often break (trust me i've had a couple). So i dont see a problem taking them out of the top loader for you to display.

True.. although closer inspection would easily show it was "tampered" with - and what about the ITG logo?

If you put the clear sticker over the ITG sticker, both stickers are so thin that you won't see that there are 2 stickers (one over the other, they are the same size) on the top loader... unless you try to remove the seal (but nobody will try to touch the stickers if he wants to keep the holder sealed!)

Get em' out of there cheap holders and enjoy them! I find the toploaders get scratched up if they aren't in a team bag, and they are not that clear for viewing straight out of the pack, or in scans. The seals also break very easily. I just freed 5 Superlative cards (four of them being 1/1's) and have no regrets at all. I am also putting together a set from Superlative 2 and plan to break all 44 seals once I have the last card in hand. Ultimate Memorabilia slabs are a whole different story (I would never crack them), but I think there is a perforation on the seal of Superlative cards for a reason.

Maybe this is where I ask the question I have been wondering about since coming back to the hobby. Why does Ultimate get slabbed whereas Superlative get's the toploader? I would have expected the opposite to be happen.

My Lindbergh Superlative cards came out of their holders without any second thought, and they are fairly short-printed at nine and four copies. The toploaders are meant to protect the card, as it was packaged by ITG during packout, until it arrives in your PC then you can do whatever you want with it. It's unfortunate that cards removed from their holders lose value, but if you are expecting to keep a card in your collection I don't see the harm in it.

Depending on how high-end the card is for me, but what company's like Ultra-Pro should do is create Magnetic Holders that fit Top-loaders inside for Superlative, If they dont sell discontinue the product, just my 2 cents
