So I listed above that I got it as part of a lot. What happened was about 4 years ago I was Rush Chairman of my fraternity, and we hosted a fantasy football league as a way to get guys to come hang out at the house for recruitment. As part of the draw I bought a bunch of sports memorabilia to give out as prizes for the league. Among them was this lot of autographs. I bought them on ebay with a high bid of like 15 bucks. I messaged the seller (with a really good positive feedback rating) saying they looked fake (a bluff) and she responded that her husband worked for a sports agency office and they got them over the years but have a bunch of extras.

I know you hear that kind of scam from sellers all the time, but these autos all look good to me, so who knows. That's why I asked you guys...

The long and short of it is the league was drafted but then the guys who were in it lost interest. So at the end of the year I sent a message to people to come pick up their prizes and no one came, so I just wound up being stuck with all of it. Unfortunately the fraternity picked up the tab and were out that money, but not a bad deal for me...

They both look good to me.

EDIT: You lied to the seller saying they look fake when you thought they were legit. Listen I'm not perfect but time and time again almost all of your posts include something "IMMORAL". I'm not going to tell what you should do but I hate people who try to scam others whether its lying, or crashing a store.

First of all it's immoral not unmoral. Have you ever played poker? Someone is either telling the truth or lying, and you bluff them and find out if they are telling the truth or not. Ebay is so full of scammers that the bluff is a viable strategy. People do it on craigslist all the time (ever read badwax.net?).

For what it's worth, I actually just asked her where she got the autos from, but for purposes of the story, I embellished a little bit above. Maybe that makes me immoral too because I embellished a story. Either way, bluffing someone who may be lying to you is not immoral. If you were a businessman and had your weird sense of morality, you would be getting ripped off left and right.

P.S. Why can't I post anything on this forum without a hater hating? Self righteousness appears to be contagious on these forums.

P.P.S. I challenge you to find anything else "immoral" that I have posted on these forums. And yes, that includes crashing a signing, because as myself and others have said, this is not immoral. That incident with the vick signing you might be referencing, again not immoral. I GAVE THAT LITTLE KID A MIKE VICK CARD. I told the dad if he could get it signed for me do it, otherwise give the card to the kid. NOT IMMORAL HOLMES.

One more thing, your whole argument for my immorality hinges on the fact that I "thought they were legit but lied to the seller." However I did not know they were real, nor did I even think they were real. MY UNCERTAINTY WAS THE WHOLE REASON I NEEDED TO BLUFF IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Either way, even if I was 100% sure they were real, bluffing the seller saying they were fake is totally ok on a moral level. I am not even using it as a negotiating tactic to get the person to lower their price. If they can answer my question to my satisfaction I will buy it at the price they want. If the other person really is telling the truth, then answering my bluff question should be no big deal.

Seriously, if you don't push people in this hobby sooner or later you are going to get ripped bad. Like the saying goes "if you can't spot the easy money at the table, you're the easy money."

OK maybe "IMMORAL" wasn't the right word anyways like the saying goes... "To argue with a fool makes two"

That's the last you'll ever see of me commenting on posts related to your shenanigans.

I am not asking you to argue with me. You have made an accusation. I want you to explain to me not what you said (that I am immoral or did something wrong) but WHY you said it. Shooting from the hip and saying "X and Y are wrong" just makes you sound like a fool.

If people explain things to me, I am willing to admit that I am wrong (I admitted that the crashing a signing and the asking the kid's dad for an auto are not morally wrong but just Bush League).

The reason I care here is because I am concerned really that I am a bad person because everything I post on these forums gets ripped by the morality police on here. I think of myself as a good person. I volunteer giving medical care to the homeless, I volunteer in my community, I always try to treat people with respect, and I try to be generous (I always give out cards and items for others to get signed when I graph, I give to friends freely without counting the cost, etc etc etc).

However, whenever I post to these forums everyone immediately says "and you wonder why people don't like you.." or "you are unbelievable that you do stuff like this."

Here is a comprehensive list of my "offenses" on these forums:

    1. I have said that I am willing to crash a professional signing and try to get a free auto at an event that people paid for said auto- Yes, this is Bush League. I am the first to admit. But I am not alone in thinking this, multiple people have posted in my threads and PM'ed me that they have done this with success.
    2. I gave a little kid's dad a card of Mike Vick and said get this signed for me if you can, otherwise give the card to your kid. I am not even going to really admit that this is Bush League, if the kid's dad wanted to do it, great. If not, the kid got a free card. Either way the kid will never know what happened and maybe get a free michael vick card (and a pretty rare one at that).
    3. This new statement I have made about "bluffing" an ebay seller. In the story that I posted (although it was false I never actually did this) I was buying a lot of autographs from an ebay seller, and I posted to this person that I thought they looked fake and asked where she got them from. What actually happened was I simply asked where she got them from. Either way, Ebay is so full of scammers that there is nothing wrong with bluffing a bit. If this person is telling the truth, then it should be nothing to them to answer my question.

Anyways, people have said that I have a weird world perspective, but I am not sure that is the case. It just hurts when you go through life trying to be a good person, and you post to these forums (something that I love doing btw that makes me happy) and every single person is like a poor man's philosopher telling me why X and Y are morally wrong.

Actually, that might be giving them too much credit- no one actually tells me WHY something is wrong, they generally just post "OMG I can't believe you do that what a horrible person you are."

This is not just me. A user on here (and a nice guy at that) Brendan posted something about Yogi Berra today and how he sent him a message asking if Yogi had signed his card or had any intention of doing so. Is that maybe a little misguided? Sure, but people jumped all over him. Where do you all get off criticizing others for how they conduct this hobby? I don't know where all this self-righteousness comes from.

I need to air this laundry out because it bothers me a lot.

EDIT: Btw some more backdrop- I bought the whole lot of autos- Rice, Williams, Dunn and a few others for 20 dollars TOTAL. If you are selling me a Jerry Rice auto and others for that cheap, then I have carte blanche to be suspicious, because frankly THAT IS SUSPICIOUS!

This thread has gotten a little out of hand, so I am closing it.
