Biggest Hobby Bust in History!
Okay...here are mine.
Baseball:
Kevin Maas: 10 HR's in 78 AB and the hype was...oh we got the next great Yankee player...took them another 5 more years after this before Derek Jeter came along.
Scott Erickson: I think he was like 8-0 for Minnesota and his cards skyrocketed. Then he got lost. Started dating a SportsCaster and became a journeyman who will be remembered for only dating LeeAnn Tweeden.
Brian Taylor: 2 NO-Hitters and then being a #1 pick of the Yankees. That Topps Auto was a big seller. Broke arm or got shot or something in that nature...and never came out of the minors.
Football:
Ki-Jana Carter: The next great running back. All the hype was surrounding this guy. Card is in the quarter bin now.
Tim Couch: #1 pick who couldn't even beat out a 2nd or 3rd stringer on a depleted QB list of Packers?
Ryan Leaf: It was a toss up on Draft Day who Indy wanted. Now it's a toss out...as in what to do with a Ryan Leaf card...either trashcan, bicycle spokes, or firestarter?
Basketball:
Harold Miner: Hailed as the next Jordan after the slam dunk contest. Cards skyrocketed. Didn't even stick around for half the career of mini-me Muggsy Bouges...who Charlotte picked up in the expansion draft...which Washington drafted as a fun pick.
Christian Laettner: One of the NCAA's greatest players. All those glorious times at Duke. And became a lifelong journeyman of the NBA. Glad Charlotte and Orlando saw this.
Michael Olowkandi: #1 pick. All the raw potential. Too bad that rawness was left out too long and it became spoiled. I would kill the person who put his card in my dutch auction.

I don't know about Griffey's. All his 89 UpperDeck have been holding steady. But has dropped big time from it's peak. Thomas...yeah it has gone down except for that NNOF Topps Frank Thomas. Jose Cruz...yes...big time. Espically when all this hype surrounding him being the next griffey. Too bad Seattle saw this coming and got rid of him to Toronto.

Well Ron Dayne wasn't that big of a hype. Only New York overhyped him and he became overhyped. But he was a bust. Akili Smith was a bust...but then again...he was drafted after Tim Couch...so I couldn't bring up his name when Couch was a bigger bust. Only that they kept Couch around a little longer. Kwame Brown isn't done. He's still young. I think he's only 22 or 23. He's got 10 more years. And in basketball...that's ALOT OF TIME. Just look at Donyell Marshall's status untill he reached Utah.

Shawn Bradley was a joke...but he did have a career longer than Ralph Sampson. So Sampson was a bigger bust. Portland will forever eat the pain the night they took Sam Bowie. The guy who drafted Sam Bowie should have been fired and banned from any managing positions!
