Yeah, inside the Wells Fargo center I often graph with a guy who always asks the sixers players for their sneakers, kinda lame- same thing you are describing.
Also, while graphing at the Washington Wizards hotel, I got physically assaulted. A guy thought that I stole his spot in line (I didn't) and I told him I didn't. He grabbed me and literally tried to pull me behind him. I ultimately decided not to make a huge deal of it and moved behind him. Still, it was kind of weird being physically assaulted over a John Wall auto (at least I still got the auto).
Philly hotels are full of dealers of the worst kind- people that will misinform you to throw you off the scent, people who won't respond to you when you speak to them (like totally ignore you). My friend who graphs hotels a lot in Philly said that they are intensely aggressive to "new guys." They want to keep the hotel racket for only the dealers so they make their money. He said that one group of dealers in particular are very rough- he said that sometimes they will take their sharpies and draw all over the clothes and the items that new guys bring to get signed to deter them from coming back.
Bottom line is: I am a new guy, so I will watch my back, and I am just getting my graphs and getting the fudge out of there.
You are right about Philly hotels. I don't regularly do it but I went one time when the Phillies were playing the Giants. I ended up getting a lot of really good autographs but all of the guys there were jerks. Like if you ask them something they either won't respond or they will intentionally give you the wrong answer.

My computer wasn't working properly. I'm sorry for posting the same thing several times. But I think you get my point about how bad Philly hotels are.

Wow, someone got physical about it. I've never seen that. The attitudes are just part of the hobby. With the economy the way it is, the dealer will take it to the next level to make a buck. To you and I its a hobby, to them its the way they make a living. Believe me, i'm not saying its right. But, people will do anything to make money. You did the right thing by not getting into it with this person. Its just an autograph.
