I could wax on & on about my main PC guy but I will instead try to be brief.

The first time I saw David Backes play it was his play that impressed me - nothing flashy but you could see he had some skills buried beneath his willingness to bang bodies & heads. Another reason I started to collect him was that at the time he didn't have a lot of cards out and what he did have was not that expensive - 2 important factors when playing catch-up (I had been out of collecting for years until just before the 08/09 season).

Watching him mature as a player and a leader has made me happy for him and proud of my collection. When I started collecting him, I would have never thought he would have made a trip to the Olympics and come home with a silver nor been selected as an All Star! This came with a price...or shall I say a price increase as the recognition of his performance led to both appearances. His new-found popularity with fans has caused the card manufaturers to release more than double the number of unique cards produced - from (by my less than scientific count) 93 before this year's releases to 206 today!

Oops - guess that wasn't too brief! So I'll summarize the answer to the OP's question: The only way David Backes performance affects my collecting of him is that it has cost me exponentially as the better he plays, the more product is produced to meet increased demand. I'm not complaining though...but my wife might lol!
