That is totally ridiculous! Printing plates are absurd. I don't really get why they're included. It just makes trying to collect a player frustrating. Especially in this example.

It is, unfortunately, very much normal in today's hobby.
Here's the numbers on Carey Price: 1460 cards, 277 1/1's. Get this: 619 of his cards are #'d /10 or less. 837 of his cards are #'d /25 or less. So you wanna be a Super Collector eh?
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

id rather have more shields that are true 1 of 1 like cards, rather than a million parallels and plates that are just some gimick by the company to include 1 of 1s to get more people to buy...

I actually like printing plates. I think they are a unique item. I've seen plaques where they have all four plates along with the base, UD exclusive and HG cards and it looks pretty cool!
That said, plates should not be included in a player's master set listing. Plates are not cards, nor can they be considered memorabilia (unless they are autographed).Hidden Content

21% of Bobby Ryan cards are 1/1's (over half of that is from RC printing plates)

That is very well said. I'm sure it must look really good like that. It's just hard to collect a single player when plates are considered part of their cards. I guess it's just the competitive side of me that wants to collect as much as I can including 1/1's.

I like this idea which someone had once posted on SCF.
Plate cards should be 1/4, 2/4 .....(black, yellow, cyan, and magenta)
Then at least there is four chances that you will find the card to help kill your list... Actually, when I saw that last post, Upper deck had no competition. Maybe Panini will do this and force UD to follow? Hmmmmm
