I assume we all agree that printing plate inserts should be limited to the front of the card only. I remember Pacific, back in the 90's, put out front and back printing plates. Many of the plate backs have appeared on eBay over the past few years. As much as I like plates, as a special item, I truly dislike the "back of the card" plates.

You should do another tally at the end of the year ..... Panini will only add to the madness ..... there are probably 2 - 5 1/1 parallels of Tavares in each set!
IMO, Panini will kill the 1/1 market more so ITG or UD .... just off the top of my head Tavares has 5 1/1s in Certified, all slightly different featuring the same picture and design:
- Mirror Black /1
- Platinum Black /1 ( wow they change the word "Mirror" to "Platinum" to get another 1/1 )
- Mirror Black Auto /1
- Mirror Black Prime Patch /1
- Mirror Black Canadian Flag /1
Im sure there are more as well .....

Clearly the press plate 1/1's skew the numbers. How much depends on how long your player has been around. Since they have only been released in recent years it would follow that younger players have a higher percentage of 1/1's. Plus, the 1/1 craze really didn't take off until the 2000's.
I know he's a small fish, but I collect Evgeni Artyukhin. Here are some numbers
Total cards (including plates) - 125
1/1's (including plates) - 55 or 44%
Number of press plate 1/1's - 52
Total cards (excluding plates) - 73
1/1's (excluding plates) - 3 or 4%Last edited by Drewk86a; 05-25-2011 at 08:13 AM.

its tough being a player collector...but you have to realize that you will never have every card of said player and just collect the cards that interest you or what you can afford ...the huge number of parallels make it tough but thats also what makes collecting fun at the same time...when it stops being fun its no longer a hobby

That is absolutely ridiculous. When new ITG product released, let's say ITG Ultimate, there always /9 and /1 versions or /19 and /1 versions. Same with Superlative /9 and /1 versions
Why? We don't need any more 1/1 cards at all!
And what come's about Upper Deck, those plates are soooo tooo much
Panini is going after them..

Steens stats are 544 total cards, 106 total 1/1's (almost 20%) and 130 cards /25 or less (24%). That means that 43.4% of all of his cards are /25 or less.
A lot of the problem is that companies have good and bad relationships with players. If they have a good relationship, like im assuming Price does, then they get put in every set possible. Steen hasnt had a hard signed card since 05-06 and no autos since 07-08 and yet he still has astronomical numbers of rare cards. I can only imagine if he liked signing how many more there would be.
The only thing is be happy that you get several new cards to chase every set. When your player stops getting them then your trades slow down and so does your involvement. It's amazing being able to find a card I need now but it doesnt happen very often.
