Player Collector's
If your favorite player get's traded. Do you dump him and look for another one.
As for my self, it's the player i look for, not the Team he play's for.
I know everyone has a different viewpoint on this, so i ask, whats your's.

I was prepared to come to grips with this situation a year ago. When it looked like it would be Carey Price--and not Jaroslav Halak--that would be traded out of Montreal, I was ready to continue collecting his cards in a new jersey. Then June 16th happened and I breathed a very deep sigh of relief.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I'm a Wings fan all the way, but at this point if Howard left for another team, I would have to continue collecting him.

I used to collect only sharks cards of Joe Thornton but then I added in bruins cards so now if he gets traded I would definitely continue with collecting him with his new team

Heh, I love that you remember the date.
For my collecting, I collect my team, the Capitals. Its the same reason I don't put a number on my Caps jersey, I like supporting the team, not an individual player.
Now if one of my favorites like Backstrom or Neuvy got traded, most likely I would keep most if not all of the cards I already had, root for his new team as long as they weren't playing the Caps, but then not pick up any new cards.
*edit* - I just wanted to add... this is how I collect. You and everyone else should collect however you want. Be it a specific player, a specific team or heck a specific jersey number.Last edited by DarkHorseCards; 06-24-2011 at 09:44 AM.

Hockey's a team game. Player is impt, but so is team.
It also depends on the strength of your collection and WHY you collect him.
I collect Plante, Roy, Vezina. Notice a pattern?
I have virtually nothing of Roy in Colorado. Ditto for Plante in STL, NYR, EDM.
However, if you collect someone for a different reason than being on your fav team, then its possible to survive the trade. I also collect a prospect (Grubauer) and he could end up in Florida for all I care. Ditto for Turco & Hemsky.
There's nothing wrong with player collecting, or abandoning a player collection if he moves to the wrong team. Just be aware that the era of the "franchise player" is pretty much dead. Heck. look at Modano. Last year in Detroit instead of Dallas? How weird is it to see him in red and white in stead of green?
Just really evaluate. Are you secretly following a great player on your fav team, or are you following a player?
Cheers,
reoddai

I collect Luke Schenn.......I'd probably still collect him if he did get traded. The value of his cards would probably drop if he got traded from Toronto making it easier on me.

I'll continue with my players no matter what I believe. I followed Stempniak from St. Louis to Toronto to Phoenix, I don't care where he goes I'll continue collecting him
