Patrick Roy is my main guy and I chase his cards in Mtl and in Colorado colors. Makes for a more diversified PC and also I will admit that when Roy left Montreal, I started rooting for the Avs. I grew up watching him play and I just wasn't happy with the way he was treated by Mtl at the end. I only rooted for the Habs again once Roy retired. That's probably why I collect him in both uniforms lol...

Heh, I love that you remember the date.

For my collecting, I collect my team, the Capitals. Its the same reason I don't put a number on my Caps jersey, I like supporting the team, not an individual player.

Now if one of my favorites like Backstrom or Neuvy got traded, most likely I would keep most if not all of the cards I already had, root for his new team as long as they weren't playing the Caps, but then not pick up any new cards.

*edit* - I just wanted to add... this is how I collect. You and everyone else should collect however you want. Be it a specific player, a specific team or heck a specific jersey number.

It was a very anxious time. I had an article on the site posted a week before the trade and I think it's pretty evident from reading it just how worried I was: "The Future of Goaltending in Montreal"

I don’t know which of these options I truly find more appealing. I of course love Price in Montreal and would hate to see him leave, but it might be the best thing for him moving forward; as much as I hate to agree with Don Cherry that he has to get out of Montreal, it might be true. I actually find the Colorado option very interesting and it would be a great opportunity for him to kick-start his career with a very good up-and-coming team. I’m very much torn between my heart and my head on the matter. There is nothing more I want to see than Carey Price in a Montreal Canadiens jersey hoisting the Stanley Cup. I do believe that he will ultimately emerge as a true #1 superstar goaltender in the NHL. However, I very much fear that, like Roy and Thibault and Theodore and every other goalie for the Habs in the past 30 years, the relationship between the player and the fans may have deteriorated to the point that the player simply has to go elsewhere to ply his trade. I want the best for both my favourite team and my favourite player – I fear that the two may be at a crossroads, and that the outcome may see them go in opposite directions.

It was an unpleasant summer with the contract not being signed until early September, and then of course the infamous "chill out" game. But I think the fans are back on board now. LOL

    -------

I'm somewhat similar to that in terms of my greater Habs collection. If they are moved or move on, I may keep a few of my favourite cards and try to move off the rest. Of all the guys that left after the 08-09 season, the only one I still have a relatively large collection of is Saku Koivu and I do still pick up the odd card here and there.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Kinda disappointed that Brayden Schenn is heading to philly...was looking forward to him and simmonds along with kopitar tearing it up there, but ah well. Not a flyers fan for their goonery, and unfortunately I think simmonds will be relegated to that role on the team, rather than an increasing scoring machine.

I'd reconsider my brayden schenn's at this point, but if he turns out to be a 2nd or 3rd liner there this year, his cards might shoot right up.

Everyone watching the draft tonight to see who the next big rookie to go for is?

It wouldnt affect me at all. I'm a huge Devils fan so if Bogo ever got traded I could really care less. But if he were to get traded to New Jersey I might just have a heart attack!

It depends on who it is, and where he goes. If it's Jordan Eberle or Sam Gagner, I will continue collecting them. Any other Oilers I'd probably move.

However, if Gagner went to the Habs or Leafs, I would strongly consider moving my collection, because of all the crazy collectors out there. And anyone to the Flames, Canucks, Flyers, or Bruins go out the door because...well, I hate them lol

I always stick with players, even if they're traded to hated rivals.

I've collected Osgood before he was a Red Wing, through his stints on the Island and in St. Louis, and if he's playing next year, and it's NOT for Detroit, I'll still try and grab every one of his cards..

I still collect Hossa. Never thought about moving the stuff I had of him.

I don't understand when a guy is traded and people dump PC cards. I can see not wanting to get any of the player in the new uniform. If you are going to dump a player that is traded away from your team, there is a good chance you will never have a "true" player pc. 99% of players will move off your team at some point. Not many Sakic/Yzerman guys around now days

Well I have a small Mike Richards PC and I'm probably just going to keep it and not get rid of it. My preference in PC is that the player/players are on my team(Flyers). Well based on what people are saying about their players going to the Flyers I should look for some Voracek and Schenn lol.
