it really baffles me how many of the ppl on this site search pakes and dont admit it.....all the time i see posts int he box breaks section where i see posts like this
"TITLE: 3 pack 04 sp legendary cuts break
well today i went to my local card shop and they jsut opened a new box of sp legendary cuts so i decided to test my luck with 3 packs. heres what i got
eddie matthews legendary swatches jersey
joe dimaggio ultimate swatches jersey
billy williams ultimate swatches jersey
all are ft/fs...."
now to prove how impossible that actually is lets do the math.
step 1: 24 packs in a box with 3 memorabilia cards = 1:8 odds of buying a pack and pulling a g/u so 1/8 = .125
step 2: so if you pull the first one then you got a 2:23 chance of pulling another g/u. 2/23 = .086
step 3: multiply the odds of pack 1 times the odds of pack 2..... .125 x .086 = .011...so 11 times out of a thousand youll get 2 hits from a 24 pack box with 3 hits in it.
step 4: the last pack you have 1:22 chance of getting the remaing hit if pull the first two. 1/22 = .045
step 5: multiply .045 x .011 = .0005
.0005 = 5/10,000 = 1/2000.......ruoghly one in two thousand!
i just thought it was odd how often ppl pulled all the hits in a box when they only bought 2 or 3 packs so i figured id point it out how ridiculous it was......

Kai,
I agreed with you up until the point of "destroying the hobby". I agree that it's shady, but there are shop dealers that do not allow searching and don't search them as well. If a nice card never came out of a shop cuz the cards were all in the dealers showcase, I doubt he sell a lot of wax by the packs. The fact that cards have demand and value is the reason that it has thrived as much as it has. It allows the card companied to push the envelope and spend more money creating great cards and new ideas. True collector's don't collect for that reason, but it's still a driving force. Even the guys trying to make a buck, either still collect some things or started off as just a collector.
It's definately one of the faults (pack searching) of the hobby, but I don't personally see it as a problem where it's going to bring down the industry or turn the majority of collector's off and stop for ever.

It prolly is pack searching but i mean if they wanna do it they can do it but dont try and lie to us on this site about i pulled 500$ in book value today. i only spent 55$ too! Man what luck.( i hope they belive me...)

its not about the bv they pull because they cant tell what the actual card inside is going to be....its more the fact that they got the hit in the box. id find it more suspicious for a guy to pull 3 8$ g/u out of 4 packs then someone pulling 2 250$ g/u from 6 packs.....

star_cards- great insight..i think you're right ...when i thought about it after reading your reply, when you think about it, a few pack searching scumbags arent about to bring down the great industry of card collecting
