True or False?
Alexander Ovechkin will have a Wayne Gretzky Career
I say false, but what do you think?

Not even close. Nobody will have a "Wayne Gretzky career" in this era. Wayne was a once-in-a-lifetime player. There will never be a "next Gretzky" just like there will never be a "next Roy" in between the pipes. Ovechkin has a long way to go in his own career, and by the time he's done he can be remembered as being the first Ovechkin.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Exactly what i think. Even though Crosby is super amazing, he shouldn't be named "The Next One." As neither should Ovechkin, thanks for agreeing with me! Some kid in my school thinks Ovechkins career CURRENTLY is better than gretzky, i mean, cmon, do you watch hockey or water polo? :| lol

false. Even if there was a player even close to as dominate ( crosby last year before his injury ) the vast contrast in the eras will never permit the same numbers to be put up. Goalies are better, defenses are tighter, the players on average are bigger, stronger and faster which means its harder to dominate. Scoring does not happen at the same rate it used to plain and simple.

i could only imagine what crosby would do to the nhl if he was a floater like the old ovi
i was just watching passes of crosby and gretzkys best. the difference is that crosby plays all 3 zones and is in a much MUCH harder era.
but the sad thing is that to be the next gretzky you have to be a floater who wins major awards every year.
the majority of hockey fans dont understand that no one plays the game like Gretzky and lemieux did. ovechkin and kovalchuk dont even do so anymore. now thats saying something and people still have the nerve to compare floaters like lemieux and Gretzky to todays era.
even the 90s is a joke compared to present hockey. the 90s still had a super large volume of weak goals and defense was still a shadow compared to what it is today.
just look at it like this : ovechkin has just started to play the two way game that crosby has been his whole career and he is struggling. crosby and ovi have had pretty identical statistical years point wise and crosby plays every zone. so ovechkin isnt and never was in crosbys skill level.
but yeah ovi ever being better then gretzky seriously is quite comicalLast edited by OBOMBA; 11-02-2011 at 02:13 AM.

Floaters? You are out of your mind. There was a centre-line in effect, and off-side was created from 2-line passes. There was holding, hooking, holding the stick, roughing and interference that was never, ever called like it is today.
You couldn't float if the rink was a pool.. That statement is absurd.
Gretzky was not a fast skater, he simply out-worked every other player in his era, and almost all since.
Lemieux? Nobody before or after or ever will have as much hockey ability as this man. Every move was effortless and correct.Last edited by centrehice; 11-02-2011 at 10:42 AM.
