last time i checked the person on the card is what gives the card its value. I personally would rather have that Montana than Smith or Rivers(Smith is a great player but Rivers is unproven)

Also on the BV stuff, BVs represent(or did at one time) the selling prices of those cards taken from across the country. So BV is not bull™™™™, its just outdated bull™™™™ more often than not.

^ yeah agreed...bv for bv is a good guide to go by for the most part...but if someone wants to trade me 10 inserts with BV totaling $100 for my $100 autograph...I would say hell no, I dont' care what the book values say. I could sell that auto on ebay for $40...while those 10 inserts of the same bv could fetch me $10 or $15 on ebay.

I don't agree with the people that refuse to acknowledge ebay (aka. real selling prices)...they are idiots...and sadly I hear it way to often on this msg board.

But the problem with BV, since it is nationwide - some yoyo could pay $100 for a crappy auto and jack the BV up...while the rest sell for $10 on ebay. Its a balancing act between ebay and beckett bv while trading.

Also, I would rather have the $100 Montana auto because you know it will hold its value. If Philip River flops then that $50 or $60 auto will be valued at $15 in no time. If you want to trade that Montana make sure you get a decent advantage because you could sell that montana auto on ebay and get more money for it than if you sold the Smith and Rivers.

But, if you are looking for Emmitt Smith and Philip Rivers Autos for your collection, then that would be a fair trade for both parties.

I don;t think ebay (aka. real selling prices)...is the real selling prices. In my dealings with ebay people are just trying to get good cards for junk card prices. When selling you do have to sometimes work in a little of ebay's prices but when tradeing no way in hell do you trade with ebay prices Whitch i have found that many people on this board and other boards try to do. I have had many people see a card i have and try to trade and when i give them the bv they say well they won't go on beckett bv because they cansider ebay the value. Whitch in trading is crazy. To me only high end stuff should be sold on ebay unless you just want to get rid of some cards becuase people use ebay to get cards for dirt cheep whitch hurts card values of card s that if sold anywhere else would bring in a fair prices.

I know some sellers won't agree, but ebay does offer the real selling price of cards. Beckett is simply numbers on paper. It's only a reference (they say so themselves in the magazine); ebay is a site where real people actually purchase cards, so it does give a REAL idea of what those cards go for-- much more than a price guide. If it seems like ebay deflates the bv of a card, maybe it was actually Beckett that inflated the bv in the first place.

That said, I would NEVER use eBay prices when trading. Beckett offers common ground for people to trade from. No arguements about why your cards are better than my cards, or the players on your cards are going to be better than the players on my cards, just a common price from which to trade from.

Why not have a disclaimer at the beginning of every trade stating that you will trade only using Beckett BV? That way the person you are trading with knows where you are getting your prices and if they don't like the rules before the game starts then you can politely tell them that you are unwilling to change your rules.

Also if I am trading for a card I will use BV. If I wanted to to use E-Bay pricing then I agree with those that say just buy the dang thing instead of trading for it. E-Bay pricing isn't the end all be all of pricing anyway since what if the seller mistypes the card or the player and the winner buys it for really cheap? Does that deflate the price of the card since the auction wasn't labeled correctly? No, the winner just found a heck of a buy! Same when you find a Mantle RC at a Garage sale for $2 from some little old lady. It's a 1 in a million find, but that doesn't mean Mantle RCs are now worthless.

I trade by BV just because everyone else does but I dont 100% agree that its the way to go.

Someone above said this "I don;t think ebay (aka. real selling prices)...is the real selling prices". HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?! More cards are sold on eBay then people sell on forums. If people buy things on eBay then HOW ARENT THEY SELLING PRICES? If you sell by BV good luck on getting 1 deal a month.

Before I start beating up my computer Im going to shutup.

I belive i said that. You can;t say that ebay is the real selling price becuase people are just looking for a good deal. Not every card would be actual value becuase you have to factor in shipping, insurence, dc, and other things. Im pretty sure that when doing the bv.s beckett and others don;t factor those things in. Lets say a card books 10.00 you win a auction on ebay for that card for 5.00 then you have to pay most times 3.00 to 3.50 on the shipping and handleing so you would actualy bepaying almost full bv.You will also have to factor in on cards that sell very high only because someone gets in a bidding war or set collects going after a serten card let say you have a card that bv is 30.00 some lucky seller has guys in a bidding war and the card gets sold for 100.00+ shipping but the same card people are getting for way less how can you have a price on things like that. You woulden;t pay over 100.00 for a card that in bv is 30.00 and you sure woulden;t want to be charged that price either on a site like these. Like i said in tradeing bv for bv is what most people do in selling you have to put a little ebay sale figures but not total ebay sell priceing. I have a derrick johnson rc auto i pulled out of a pack of topps 50th for the first few weeks it had been sold on ebay for about 30.00 bucks it books 60.00. Now it is selling i think 10.00 to 15.00 or thats what i have been told buy someone wanting the card. If i was to sell that card witch price would i choose. I sure wouldn;t choose the lesser of the prices. Like has been said many times before if you want ebay prices go to ebay. there are other places that sell not just ebay there are card stores, card sites, auction sites, card showes extra. Ebay in my opinion is more for people with higher end cards. anything else people are just looking at ebay like a doller bin.
