I would like to collect a certain player seriously, but it is way to overwhelming for a second year collector lol

I actually, in a way, I envy you. Being fairly new to the hobby.

We didn't have any of these online resources 20 years ago. Just the Beckett and a couple of other magazines. Tuff Stuff, Sports Cards Monthly, and Sports Collector Digest, which may still be around. And fewer places to buy cards.

Also, it took me years until I really focused on what I wanted to collect. You have the benefit of knowing what you want already. Jump on it while you can. Someone else is going for that player, you can bet.

Try picking a certain type of card. Autos, patches, maybe a certain brand.

But I understand. There's a flood of product out there right now. It can be tough if you want one of the big stars. So much stuff to choose from. And so much competition. Especially from flippers.

Wait..... The annual does NOT list everything anymore?

I haven't gotten one of those in years.

That was kinda the whole point to the Annual in my opinion.

I've found in the baseball one that my dad has (he has a really old one) compared to the latest they omit some things to make room for new stuff that comes out.

I found a baseball one for my friend a few years back for Christmas. Not a Beckett though.

That thing was just about the biggest book I have ever held!! Just massive. With the tiniest printing I ever saw, haha.

I noticed a few items in my last Beckett football copy not listed. Sent them a letter like it asked for omissions/additions, but I have not had the opportunity to see if they added them.

Jeez, those things come shrink wrapped if I remember right. I would want to look thru it before spending 40 or 50 bucks on one. I wouldn't be too happy to get it home, and find it's incomplete.


But I can see not reprinting older stuff year after year I guess. To make room for all the new stuff, and keep the cost down. Say, pre 1989 for football.

Sets from the old days aren't gonna change, ya know.

Still, that sucks.

Its not so much who or what type of card, my fav. player is Fitzgerald so it makes sense, but since I just started he has had how many years of cards out already? Its crazy if you actually think over a year or two how many cards a single player could have.

Exactly why I suggested a type of card. Trying for everything of a player like that can be overwhelming.

Over 400 2011 cards alone. Gotta narrow that down somehow to just stay sane. lol

Right.

Just some way to focus your collection. There's a few possible ways to do that.

Numbered cards, auto cards, patch cards, one color jersey cards, maybe just all the Absolute cards. Or maybe just his rookie year cards. To start, lol. There's gotta be a bunch of those.

Sometimes the hard part is figuring that out though. It's like being in an ice cream store. Half the battle is figuring out what you really want. It's all so tasty, lol.

Nope! Not at all.

The beauty of this hobby is YOU get to decide what YOU like, and what makes YOU happy. Only you can decide what you want out of collecting anything.
