    What/how do you collect?

I always wonder about what people collect with regards to hockey cards. Is it sets? players? teams? gu/autos? a combination? My guess is that its all over the board, just wondering..

Also, what would you say the percentage of people is that buy boxes and collect/sell vs the percentage of people that are just buyers/traders?

I don't bust any wax, I only buy singles or lots. I'm not really big on flipping, but I'll sometimes buy large lots so that I can keep what I need and move the rest to recover some cash or get other cards in trade.

The huge majority of my spending is on singles for my PC. I don't really like GU cards, but I'll buy those from my PC players. Outside of my PC guys, I really like rookies and HOF autos...I've also been doing some basketball HOF sets recently to expand my collection horizons a little.

I'm not sure on the percentage of of box buyers vs. singles buyers, but I am always very appreciative of those who bust boxes so that collectors like me can get the singles they want/need without the risk of busting wax.

I do everything: Team, Players, Sets. I do bust a fair amount of wax, and try to trade what I don't want for something else.

It's a very good question. I started with collecting a little of all: rookies, heroes, some patches. Then I liked some sets: OPC, artifacts, etc. Now I'm into Pavel Bure stuff and parallels of diverses origins. I don't know what wind is controlling my boat, maybe that's the fun of the ocean.

I generally can't afford much product, but I love to bust packs / boxes. If there's a hot rookie I'll keep, but mostly looking for PC stuff, even just base cards. As we all know, regular product usually drops in price after a while. (UD1, UD2, Victory, Score, etc) I know there's not much value there, but it suits me just fine. I generally wait several months to a year and buy UD1 and UD2. Thus far it's worked quite well for me. Pulled a Stamkos YG from a $12 blaster about 3 months ago. Have 2 Tavares YG's from retail UD1 ($38 from DACW), 2 Eberle YG's from a Blaster, and Retail packs. ($1 each at DACW) Only thing I missed the boat on so far was Seguin YG from last year. Didn't realize there was very little retail made, and forget Hobby boxes now. DACW has blasters for $18, maybe I'll try one... Anything else I hit that isn't PC, allows me to trade for PC :)

Player PC first (Bossy-Tavares), then focus on the team ... Islanders Dynasty players and current roster (avoid players from 1985-2005, nightmares).
Outside of the team , focus on Cup Chirography, high-end set with alot of HOF'ers.

I don't bust wax and have never purchased to flip a card. And only set collecting is mentioned above the two Cup Chirography sets.

I mainly bust wax for set collecting. Never sell but trade a little bit. I've decided to not buy anything new after this season unless it's a set I think is really cool (ie. 2010/11 Score for it's 90/91 retro design). Will probably still bust a couple of boxes of BTP every year though.

I'm gonna focus on all sports from the mid 80's to the mid 90's of sets that I like that I don't already or partially have. Shouldn't be too expensive as a lot of what I'll be going for is "junk wax".

I have two primary collecting projects. The first is my main player collection (Jimmy Howard) for which I only buy singles (eBay, shows, LCS, etc) and make trades for. Makes no sense to chase a specific player busting boxes or packs, am I right?

My other project though, (99-00 MVP SC Edition master set) goes both ways. I buy most of the Gold and Super Script parallels on eBay and occasionally trade for them. For the silver scripts and the other inserts, I've busted three boxes so far and will always be on the lookout for more. Sure, I have the base set three times over now, but I use those for TTM so it's not a bad deal. Plus who doesn't love opening boxes?
