My hockey card focus has been on completing sets that I didn't complete during the 90's (I took about 10 years off collecting hockey) and starting and completing sets from recent years that catch my eye and that are affordable. I usually start by buying retail boxes that are on sale.

wow - this is exactly what i was interested in... very diverse and lots of different styles of collecting.... great stuff !
as for me, I just got into the hockey card business about 4 or 5 years ago. I have collected baseball and football since the mid 70s, but I have slowed down on that and have been focusing only on hurricanes. when i started with hockey i was buying boxes and packs, but now i almost exclusively buy either from traders on this board or on ebay (and a couple of other places/sites). recently i have been looking for the earliest canes, from 97-98 to around 03-04.. francis, brindamour, irbe, etc. i am also working on any and all name plate hurricane sets.

I collect Ian White (I don't find many new cards of his very often) and mainly any autos that catch my eye, preferably hard signed like SOTT, Ultimate autos, or Ice Scripts. I use to focus on patches as well as autos but the legitimacy of game used material in some of the cards kinda turned me off of GU stuff so now I focus more on autos.

I try to acquire only rc's of the top 3-4 guys from each year, and as high end as I can get. I do have a few pc players right now, Price, Pacioretty, Lars Eller, Evander Kane and Ryan Johansen. For the most part I only collect rc's when I pc players, but I end up with a bunch of patches and autos of everyone somehow.

I'm a Mask card collector. I don't bust a lot of boxes (usually three or four per year on average), but when I do, it's almost always a product in which I can get PC cards (Masks). It's much more fun to open a box knowing you might hit a nice PC card in it rather than just to open a box, well, just to open it.
