My thinking is that wasn't there a possibility at one time that Florida could possibly be on the move? Maybe to Quebec City?

Would this not be a strategic trade for Luongo just in case the possibility did exist? He would be closer to home.
But then again you would have to be in the minds of the people at play to know for sure this would be the case.Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd

Personally, I think you'll see the Islanders in QC before the Panthers, but that's just me.
While QC would be closer to his mother/father family, his wife/kids family lives in Miami, as does his wife's whole family. So either way, he's much closer to family.
Mind you, he could go just about anywhere and be closer to family.

With all the dough Luongo has, I would bet his Parents are already retired in Floride as are most Quebec seniors with money.
You can bet that both sides of his family will eventually be in Florida, as that's were most of Quebec is anyway.

You may be right on the second part, but his family is still in Montreal. I'm going to have to trust you that most Quebec seniors retire to Florida, but it kind of sounds the same as saying all British Columbians retire to Arizona. A lot do, but "most" is nowhere near true (and most come back for the summer).

Many Quebec seniors with money at least make Florida their Winter home. I have lived in Montreal for 3 years, Florida twice for 3 years, (My In-laws are there, my Wife from there originally) and I have lived in Barbados, and been on 10 other occasions.
Quebecers love both Barbade and Floride for Winter Holidays while working, and then for retirement. It's two among their favourite choices outside of Canada.Last edited by centrehice; 07-07-2012 at 05:08 PM.

Speaking of which, I don't think Islanders will move to Quebec. I can actually see them move to Brooklyn since the Nets (NBA) have already established a new arena there.
It makes perfect sense for them. They don't have to "move" and can remain being called the NY Islanders or they can call themselves the Brooklyn Islanders if they want lol.
As for Luongo, I am more than certain he will be heading to the Panthers. He wants to go there and the Panthers want him back. It's a matter of the fine details of return.
He publicly spoke about "it's time to move on" so in essence a deal will be made and more importantly I deal will be pushed to move him to somewhere he wants to be.
It's time move on, so for all I care just strike a deal and get it over with. There isn't a point to drag this on. How much more return can the Canucks get anyways by dragging this?
For the city, the player, and the team. Just get this deal done and over with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta remember that family (especially the wife) can dictate where the player will go to. His wife is from the region where the Florida Panthers are in, so it's a much higher chance than say another Canadian city. Also I recalled that Luongo a few seasons ago took some time off during the season (back to Florida) when his wife was having children.
When the regular news mentions the headliner about Luongo wanting to move on, it's usually a sign that it's probably not a rumour anymore.
P.S.: Note that Pronger left Edmonton due to his wife wanting to move out of the city. When a player especially has a trophy wife, don't expect them to come north or to smaller markets willingly.
