You know what was funny I was on a sports trading forum similiar to this and someone made a joke thread about a HOF linebacker for the bears who wore #51 and last name was Butkus. They were talking about one of his cards that they rec'd in their mailbox. I'm not going to repeat it on public but feel free to hit up my inbox.
Drug and smoke free trading.

You shouldn't, because there's no real way to take offense at truth. What you said ignored the fact that both those words have had the exact same history and had the exact same morph from "benign descriptive" to "slur". To say one is a "curse" word and the other isn't ignores that, and therefore makes it ignorant. There is no offense in truth. That's why in the first post, I explained why calling me a retard isn't all that offensive, but calling something that is stupid "retarded" is.
That statement ignored these things. It was ignorant.
This isn't about "my needs". This is about a double standard. I've explained this and you're a smart guy. The fact you're saying B is a "known and accepted curse" but retard isn't just shows the hypocrisy of all this. Again, you're smart, why can't you see this (don't answer that, I think we both know you do see it but can't say as much)
Well, when I was directly called a retard several months ago, I complained (on the basis of that level of ignorance and use of such a word in such a context) and it stayed for as long as I cared to check back, which was at least several days. As such, I have to assume NOTHING happened.
If something did happen, why did it take so long?
See what I mean about things not adding up? The lack of concern about this is frightening and really changing my view of some people here.
That's great, Jay. Really. Thing is, I'm outright telling you you are allowing this offensiveness to go on, which is fine with me as long as all things stay fair.
Please, answer me this; how is it in any way NOT a double standard to allow:
"You're a stupid retard!" or "That's retarded!"
but:
"Henry was the B son of David and Margaret"
is just too filthy for the place?
Jay, I'm serious. I need an answer here, and I need it to make sense and not ignore facts. Right now, I'm really beginning to see a level of ignorance, hypocrisy and thoughtlessness I thought didn't exist here. Blind defense of what you don't understand is just sad.
Please, answer my question. Everything you've said thus far fell apart as soon as I put an ounce of thought into it.

While my point is if we can handle retard we can handle ™™™™™™™. At the same time, being that the word is used negatively 100% of the time, what is it going to take for retard to move into "curse" class?
Do we need to see a major increase in retard suicides?
Does someone need to try to cleanse the world of retards?
What has to happen before a word used solely for the purpose of insult is seen for what it is?

retarded = slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or academic progress
I am not allowing anyone to be offensive, it has been handled and that is all I can tell you.
wickabee, like I said, there is no pleasing you with an answer, unless it comes directly from you, you will find a way to have an issue with it. I can't change that!
and for the book, just because you think something is or isn't anything, does not make it such, no matter how much backpeddleing you do.
The facts are nearly all curse words can have a different meaning, born out of wedlock, a female dog, a DD person, sex, where bad people go, and so on.
any further discussion between me and you about this can be done via pm, and you know I reply to every pm.

I agree 110%, thats why the trading and selling forums are seperate from the political ones. You can lose your credibility on those, talking politics is just a side hobby for me.

The only thing I see right now is you deliberately avoiding understanding the situation.
And you're right. I don't have an answer for that. There is no answer why you're seeing these words differently.
B has a legitimate meaning, but is never used as such.
Retard has a legitimate meaning, but is never used as such.
Why are they treated differently? I don't know. There is absolutely zero reason to, unless you just don't care about us retards.

You know what, I'll be pacified if someone can use the word retarded, when talking about politics or religion, without referring directly to a person, that can't live with another word in place of retarded.
Also, it has to be something someone would actually say. No one talks about senate talks being "retarded" in the context of "slow".
So yeah, Jay, do that. A real life sentence that needs retarded, doesn't call a person retarded, and relates to this forum.

If the attitude here can be taken as the general attitude of western society and specifically the USA, it's no wonder the state of mental health is what it is. It's no wonder that those effected by mental illness don't speak up. They're told their concerns, values and beliefs are invalid and that's that. Until people stop paying lip service to this issue and start living what they say, mental illness and the problems it creates will continue to spiral out of control. It can't wait until the government tells us to care. We're worried about gay marriage? The mentally I'll are still being treated as second class, a nuisance. It's happening right here, right now in calling it somehow different from another word with a technical meaning that is only ever used negatively. A member of any other group would be applauded for saying what I am saying. If it was a word with a technical meaning that negatively referred to blacks, Hispanics, Asians, gays, women, union workers this would be a love in.
But it's retards.
I think some people need to take stock of a few things. Look at what they say and what they believe in and figure out if they really are the thoughtful and fair people they claim to be.
I also fear this may just because I am the one saying it. If you're judging this on your opinion of my politics, well that says more about you than me, doesn't it. If it's because I have vested interest, so to speak, I ask you, who else is going to say it?
