    Base cards...

This has always been an issue for me... what to do with all the base cards. Is there anywhere where they are worth something? currently I have just been donating them to the LCS and they have someone who gives them to kids which is fine. But when you bust a box of SPA for 3 autos it would be nice to have something to do for the base cards as well.

    Thank you!

Start including base cards in your PC

    OR

    Stop buying boxes

    OR

Save them up into player or team lots and at least get a LITTLE something off eBay sales or SCF trades

    OR

    Keep giving them away

I have two 5,000-ct boxes full of base cards. I gave two Matt Cookes away a couple weeks ago and some Parkhurst Champions a few weeks before that. I get hugs in return!! Mental hugs, but still............

I dunno what to do with them either :(

I put together base sets and give them to the people who have young children in my office at Xmas.

I been doing this for a few years it has been popular and have received a couple on the kids' minor league cards as a thank you ( I try to get the kids to sign them and put them in a one touch ).

Never know who will be a future collector !!

On hockeykort.se, which is a Swedish trading card forum, they started a project where people sign up and donate cards to children's wards at hospitals in their communities. I'd do the same if only youngsters (or anyone for that matter) cared about hockey in the small country that is Denmark.

Ed made some good points there as well, listen to his wise words! Haha. I like option 1 and 3 the best at the moment.

Depending on what sets they are from, I'll use them in packaging to protect toploaders by throwing a few on each side. Or with a set like SPA with a lot of white space, maybe give TTM autos a shot.

I trade them in at my LCS for new supplies. bubble envelopes, team bags, soft sleeves and top loaders. I get 25$ worth of supplies for one of those big white boxes of base cards.

I put them in team lots and trade them for serial #ed. I usually get about 1 parallel, serial #ed for every 6-8 base cards. Works well

    For SPA, go with TTM.

But for the most part, they don't have value. Sometimes I throw them into a deal if traders need something, or just donate them to the Sick Kid's hospital/give them to kids.

I still build base sets out of habit and pull star cards out. The rest await the needs of other set builders out there. I, too, would donate them if there were any interest here in Arizona...

I just got rid of 16 post lockout base 3200 count boxes ...... I found a local deal who paid $100 for three 3200 count boxes.

I turned my base card money into singles for my PC.

Since then, all the base from the boxes I break have stayed at the LCS or the show. I keep the inserts / parallels / hits, and a few base cards from sets im working on!
