there are people that buy base in bulk for either vending machines, or to package up and sell to wal-mart for crazy prices. I like the packs of 50 base cards that wal mart sell for $5.00. HAHAHAHA Stupid people that buy those.
At the expo in Toronto there is a dealer that advestises that they will buy base in bulk for 1-3 cents per card depending on year and set etc. Could add up if you have a lot of cards.

Well I don't have an awful lot of base cards lying around since I don't break lots of boxes, but I always keep them in the hope that one day I can help out a set or team collector.

I find there are still a few people that have uses for base cards in collecting circles. You just have to find those people. Team, player, and set collectors are still out there, and base cards are part of the repertoire. It depends on your trading style of what you feel about those said base cards. Not too many people "jump for joy" over them, but there are people like me that are happy when a $.05 Stumpel card I can never find pops up all of a sudden, and I can get it added into a trade of larger proportions. The disappointing aspect though of finding that $.05 Stumpel card is when I see it on ebay for $.99... I just have to sigh, and pass until I can find someone that has it available for trade.
So with that perspective I keep all my base, and actually have every single one listed on my site. Set/number/player/team and quantity. As well working on adding in all the BV's too. I have actually made quite a few trades with some very grateful traders that have the same issue as I do in not finding base cards of the players we collect. I've traded with people that collect names like Berezin/Peluso/Derek King/Daneyko/Kypreos.....etc. Also the team collectors that I've worked with that are happy to create their own lot. They get what they want, and don't have to take duplicates of cards they already have, where they would have to when lots are up for trade. The same for set collectors. For most people base is just a load of worthlessness that is easier tossed aside while everyone drools over that sick patch, that sweet three break jersey, or that highly sought after auto. Don't get me wrong, I like all those too, but in reality, I like to keep my base included as a big part of my collection. Besides! The stats and the bios are all the rage for me. Not to go without mentioning some of the photos for base cards with the full bleed on card action shots are way better than in some cases a stiff pose of your player on the jerseys or autos.
If I could I would champion the cause to get more people to keep their base cards, and list them to make them available, but in reality that's a minority statement. With the amount of cards out there, it is a lot to digest. It can be overwhelming(or underwhelming even) as a collector/trader to even worry about having them around, and is just easier to find ways to dump them. However if you have a bit of time and patience, you can list them and make them available for trade. You might be surprised how many happy people will be more than happy to trade with you for those little base cards. Again though that time and patience has to be available.Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd

I use them for TTM stuff, and I'm always looking for cards from newer sets of older players (like a Guy Lafleur from 2011 SPA for instance). But for all other current players, I also have a hard time getting rid of them. Luckily my girlfriend hasn't complained about it yet!
