Hi, my name's Ed, I collect Ryan Kesler cards, perhaps we've met? I have 560 of them? Yessss, me, that's right, How ARE you? Have you lost weight? Lookin goooood!!

So there was a Ryan Kesler Collision Course All-Star helmet sticker /4 up on the eBay for 9 days with a BIN/OBO of $199. I had other things on the go, I figured at that price it would be around for a while, I'd get around to it eventually or the seller would put it up for bids, like any sane person, yes?




Then, it disappeared off the eBay.




Then, it reappeared today, as this auction..........

I'm not trying to pick a fight or comment on you at all, but I've considered doing the same with a couple of items.

It gets frustrating to put a card up and have 5 or 6 watchers, but no bids. Because you just know that they are all sitting back and waiting for you to get desperate enough to sell it for half of what you should.

It's kind of insulting.

It kind of makes it seem like the watchers think you are going to get desperate enough to move it that you'll sell it for nothing.

I would NEVER but a limited item (less than 25 copies) up for open auction.

If the card is rare, you'll have to pay me what it is worth. I've had cases where someone watched my auction, waited for it to end and be re-listed (at exactly the same price) then shoot me an offer of 25% of my asking price. When I counter, the offer comes back THE EXACT SAME. Then I decline, the user waited a week and made the same offer.

Almost as if to say "are you desperate enough yet?".

Honestly, I hate that you lost a card, but I understand the point he is making. If you want a card, bid on it, don't wait around like a vulture for the auction to die so you can pick it up for scraps.

Uhhhhhh, a couple things. And believe me, I'm not looking for a fight either, any of the harshness in this is directed at him, not you........I bought this card, at auction, for $80.

















The next one that popped up, also an auction, went for $50ish, because my phone wouldn't bid properly and I lost out on it. Ryan Kesler is "worth" only so much, be it a /25 or /5 or a /1. That is the reality of the situation. You can tell me your collection is "worth" XXX but that's only good for insurance purposes. It's WORTH whatever someone else is willing to pay for it. There's me and a few other guys out there collecting Ryan Kesler cards, not a huge line-up. He's not Sidney Crosby or Mario Lemieux, and he's not even Ryan Kesler anymore, to be brutally honest. That's how this "hobby" works..........


A 1/1 Prime Authentics started out on eBay at a $850 BIN/OBO. Not ONE Prime Authentics has sold for more than $200. The card started making it's way downwards, $500, $350, $250........then it was put up for auction. I won it for $177.50, which is in the range of what every other Prime Authentics has sold for. I didn't get a steal and I didn't get ripped off either.


If you're going to set a BIN price on a card, and you actually want to sell it, maybe do some homework first, take a look at previous sales. Kesler 1/1s sell for $50-125ish unless they're shields or tags, because that's the market. If you're gonna put up a $199 BIN, then yes, you're gonna sit on that card for a while, because no one is going to bite and new stuff to distract collectors comes out EVERY WEEK. If you're comfy sitting on it, (it's your card, you can do whatever you want with it) then fine, I don't mind one bit. If you get lucky and it sells for what you want then I'll be a little sad but oooooo look over there, shiny!!

Or you could put it up for bids and get $50-80 for it, from me or Kingsley or Lorraine or Dale.

Or you could soil your diaper and get NOTHING. You're not teaching me anything about ANYTHING, because again, look over there! SP Game Used has a Supreme Skate patch /12 for me to chase, and Titanium has a 4-Star patch/auto dingus /10 out there somewhere.

Me, I've got one. I'll live. Kingsley doesn't have one, he would have paid money for it, as would the others I mentioned.

If he is in the position to wait for what he considers a reasonable offer, and not rush into anything, then he can dictate his price.

He might hold onto it forever, but he still gets to decide his price. In this case, he decided that given the choice of selling a tremendous hit for less than 1/3 of the price of the pack it came in, or holding onto it, he would rather not sell (in this case, he actually made a very permanent decision to keep it forever, lol).

Just because 2 other Broke idiots overspent on Prime and are now trying to liquidate everything just to make back their money and pay their rent and sold their cards for a certain price... doesn't mean that guy needs to do the same.

If there was tons of supply, then yes, as a buyer you can dictate the price, but with limited supply, you've got less control.

It's a two-way street. Precedent has been set. The market has "decided" what Keslers are worth. The seller is free to ask for $199, and we are equally free to not buy it for that amount. The price of the box or case has nothing to do with it, unfortunately - see SP Game Used.

There are Keslers that have been up on eBay with Gi-Normous BIN/OBOs for months. They are all currently intact. This one lasted nine days.

The only lesson here is that buddy decided he wanted to burn a "sixty-dollar bill right there" - Darrell (Storage Wars)

I'm not a person anymore, just a useless treasure trove of Jeopardy trivia.

The market still decides the value. Notice how nobody was making offers or buying the card? That's the market deciding that the card is not that valuable. I don't know why some sellers have such a sense of entitlement as to the value of their card. Mein Gott, it was a movie you could SAVOR, the dialogue, the dryyyy humor, the other "stuff" that appealed to our baser sensibilities. All of it, it was just a treat :)
