And, the idea of the seller deciding the value goes against how the economy works...

This is what surprises me more than anything in this thread, the fact that anyone would think the seller determines the "value" of a card. He can set a price and hold onto that card forever if the price isn't met (or chop it up), but the economic value is set by the market. That's such a basic concept, and I thought everyone on here would learned that by now.

Sure, Ebay can be frustrating for sellers just as it can be for buyers. I understand the point the seller is trying to make, but he contributed to his own problems by setting a price for a card that was based on his own inflated value (Endowment Effect) instead of looking at what the market dictated. He never had a chance, and he's as much to blame for that as anyone.

In the end, the only thing harmed here was a piece of cardboard.

The Seller always determines the listing price of anything.

The Market determines whether it will sell at that price or not.

Sorry Adam, but your kind of a newbie to the whole buying and selling ..... so ill cut you a little slack. You are right, the card is the sellers property, and he has every right to ask and do whatever he wants to the card. However, he does not set the market on the card, no matter what the card is. The market value of the card is what the people are paying. If you see a bunch of similar cards, granted not the exact, selling for $XX - $XX ..... then that is your market.

Weather people like it or not, current market value is what the hobby goes on. I understand there are a few that dont look at sales, and go solely based on BVs ....... but I would also have to say these types of people are the hardest to do any deals with. Quoting numbers in a book doesnt mean squat, especially when you have such a tool like ebay to everyones disposal. There is rarely a NPDTS card ... where there are no completed listings, no similar listings, or anything to actually gauge the value of the card .... another example of why Becketts are basically trash now. You mean to tell me, Beckett cant price cards xx/25 or less .... though I can find 100s if not 1000s of them on ebay right now.

The seller ...... totally off his rocker ..... 9 days, and he does that. Sure hope nothing happens to him in real life .... hes gonna have a mental breakdown and shoot up somewhere .....

Also to the people saying, "its only a card, talk about real tragedies etc etc etc" ...... - We know its a card. We know a card being destroyed doesnt actually matter. We know there are dying people in the world. We know the world in general is a pretty crappy place for a lot of people. But this is a hockey board. Not the news, not a real life discussion ...... on this site, cardboard is king ..... not whats happening in all the less fortunate places in the world. Basically, to everyone on this site ...... that seller MURDERED that card.

Ebay is not the only place things are bought and sold (alot of you seem to forget that there is an entire world outside of the bay).

I dont doubt you in the hobby ...... but this is basically an ebay matter. Sure, ebay is not the only place things are bought and sold ..... but its the only place that provides proof of sales. If there is no proof card X went for Y ..... then for most of us, that sale didnt take place. Ebay is just the best tool we have right now to look at current market values.

I wouldnt say im dismissing you ..... but you have been an only trader for a long time. There is quite a big difference from trading, and going into buying and selling .... there are A TON of us that have been buying / selling for 5 - 10 - 15+ years. We think we know the ropes pretty well .... and for the most part I think the average person selling for X amount of years does understand the market.

Weather you like it or not ....... ebay is the BEST tool we have right now. If you have card X, and it sells for $25 - $35 on ebay ........ but you tell me you saw someone buy / sell it for $50 at a shop or card show .... im sorry but in that instance your word basically means nothing compared to cold, hard facts. If you know of a better tool to use .... please share with us =)

WOA Sweet room/display set-up....Do you use 2 way tape to hold the framed cards in place? I also see a few cards in one-touches...stuck to the wall, somehow? Those are not the real masks...or are they!!???

Tim, years ago when people still had cameras with film that they got developed that they got photos from that they put into albums, the camera store sold "photo tape" which is double-sided and GUARANTEED not to destroy the paper it was stuck to. I used that for those cards in the frames. A few months ago I got super-paranoid, what if the guarantee was a lie? What if my $350 Ken Dryden auto was ruined?? So I took the frame apart and peeled the card off the glass and then..........VICTORY!!! No paper loss, no residue. Thank you, 3M!!!! If you can still find photo tape, buy ittttttt.

The one-touches are glued to the wall. It's not a good idea. Front of card glued to the wall after prying it off and cracking the case at the top:

Good lord, that Burgoo lunch looks fantastic! I last visited Vancouver in 2001 (lived there in the 80's for a year), so I'm overdue for a visit...will buy you lunch at Burgoo's when I do!
