I don't see how you can be so certain on the numbers of Native Americans who are offended and not offended by the term Redskin.
The feds say 30% of those asked

you got me.
I would have to admit, maybe my wording could have been better and I am not trying to downgrade their stance, I am honestly quite tired of the "PC" social issues we have been fighting over while their are more important things that keep sliding by.
War on women, you bet, but let deal with wage and education equality in the US, abortion is legal and a choice we have no say so in.
Race issues, you bet, why do we see such disproportionate numbers in high crime areas and the penal system? what can we all do with our resources to fix, perhaps, the biggest issue in America? Why in non white americans at such higher risks of so many things such as alcoholism, drug use, convicted of crimes, lack of wealth?
Religion in classrooms, sure, lets bring it to the schools the way it was intended to.

I completely get the over PCing that is out there. I just see the concern of the name red skin as being negative and offensive to people. I also get that there are more important things than this, but that doesn't mean this can't still be a concern or even addressed. I posted early on that the government really shouldn't be putting it's nose into this. I actually think the action of removing their trademark will ultimately be overturned and I'd agree with that. All that said, that doesn't mean that Natives don't have a legitimate complaint about the use of the word as an NFL team name. Yes, native have much more impactful issues like alcoholism and suicide rates, but I don't think the fact that there are more pressing issues can mean that you can just dismiss one that is lower down the list. That's just not a practical way of saying something doesn't matter to be discussed. There will always be something more pressing of an issue. It's like saying we can't address the flu because AIDs is much more deadly or we can't address AIDs because cancer effects a higher percentage of people. It's just not valid to do that.

but if the government steps in to study and remedy the flu and does nothing or little for HIV, then yes it is an issue and a valid argument to prioritize.

I guess my point is what do we know about things that are being done by the native community or the government to help with their more pressing issues? I don't think we can assume that this issue of the name change means nothing is being done on the other fronts. Obviously it is getting a lot of press but that may be that it's of a topic (football) that many more americans are interested in over the troubles of native americans. It's sad but as a whole our country cares way more about an NFL team name than the other troubles that effect native americans.

Every time the other side has a project, people will denounce their priorities. The reason? These people know they are wrong, they know the outcome doesn't even affect them, but they can't let go of an argument.
You see it a lot in people who believe they're smarter than everyone. They can't he wrong because they said so. This decision, while not occurring in a proper form in my mind, is the right one and arguing against it is like arguing for segregation on a smaller level.

So there are different levels of wrong in your mind?
This is wrong period. The Gov't has ZERO business in this matter and it's an abuse of power in what this administration did. I guess it's par for the course though.

Sure, it wouldn't be because there are more pressing issues. Ever hear of Triage?

I'm going to address the first question, then ignore the rest.
I've already given my view of this. It's in this thread.
