    Raising minimum wage to help unemployment? That makes no sense.

    Min wage gets raised to help the employed, not the unemployed. Does anyone think before they talk?

    wick, people do think, but apparently you are a concrete thinker.

    lets see;

    americans are upset about unemployment and want job creation. no jobs created, so they switch topics to minimum wage to make it appear that they are trying to do something on the job front. The old switch and bait.

    people tend to take the easy path.
    want to look like you care? do the easiest thing to show it.

    I think the use of the term Redskins as a team name is a completely valid argument. I agree that it's not anything life or death and probably not the major issue that effects native americans, but I don't consider the push to change the name to be lazy. I'm sure there are some that are against it just to seem like they care, but there are legitimate reasons why I can see native americans wanting it to be changed. The fact that there may be lazy people linking themselves to this cause doesn't mean it's baseless.

    You're the only one I know of thinking min wage has anything to do with unemployment.

    Makes some sense to me that increasing minimum wage means employers spend more money on employees. What do you suppose that will mean?...LESS profits for the employer (HA!), or will they "unemploy" some workers to cover their profit margins?

    And when you say "the only people who give a crap is a bunch of thin-skinned liberals who have nothing better to do with their pathetic lives than make a big deal over a small issue. ", are you referring to Native Americans who've raised these complaints to the patents office in the past, since they seem to be the majority of who "gives a crap" in this particular example and article?

    Actually I am referring to the non-Native American liberals since they are the ones making the biggest noise about this. The Native Americans that are taking issue with it have been taking issue with it for years. The ones making the most noise now are white liberals who often suffer severe shoulder injuries from patting themselves on the back for being so open-minded while hoping nobody will notice that they really don't care about these minority groups, they just want to force someone to do something against their will.

    If liberals really cared about Native Americans they would stop all this yapping about name changes and start worrying about real issues like alcoholism, poor education and high dropout rates, and a suicide rate that is 19 times higher than the national average. Instead, after they force a name change do you know what these same liberals will do for Native Americans? Nothing.

    They have come out against the chief wahoo logo in the past. Plus Cleveland has started to reduce it's use. That's not as good as ending it all together, but a step in the right direction. If you can't see that the term Red Skin is a horribly offensive term to call a name then I really don't know what to say. Go ahead and spout your cry baby liberal crap all you want. Just because someone agrees that it's offensive and shouldn't be an NFL team name doesn't mean their lives are pathetic. I do agree that the government doesn't really need to get involved, but the term red skin is offensive plain and simple. Anyone who can't see that is lying to themselves.

    The only people who find it offensive are a very small percentage of Native Americans who most likely don't really care, but they want attention.

    As for the name being offensive, why do you find it offensive? Do you even know the origin of the word redskin? Are you of Native American descent? Why is it so offensive to you?

    Duane, for a long time it was a small group of blacks complaining about their oppression. Stupid liberals listening to them!

    I don't see how you can be so certain on the numbers of Native Americans who are offended and not offended by the term Redskin. The native americans who I have heard recently sound like they legitimately want the name changed rather than just attention.

    I've actually heard various origins of the word. The obvious is defining a race of people by the color of their skin. This is similar to how asian people have been categorized by the color yellow in the past, usually negatively, too describe their skin tone. I've also heard that it pertained to specific tribes who painted their skin red and may have been used as a general term amongst all tribes of indians. I've also heard that bounties that where placed on Native Americans where sometimes referred to as red skins. I've also read that the term was also used in western movies to describe native americans who they were fighting, typically describing the antagonist in a negative light. Whatever the origin, it seems to be pretty evident that it's been used negatively throughout our history to some degree. I see the word on a similar level as the term Injun.

    I am not native american and I don't think one has to be to be offended by negative words directed at other races or groups of people or to think the team name should be changed. Obviously the term when we hear it these days is because of a football team and that has normalized it to some degree for much of the country but that doesn't mean that it's not offensive to people or has a root in negativity.
