It seems like ebay is good for people on the lookout for cheap auctions where cards that would normally sell for $20 at buy it now/b.o. but the low auction prices seem to be hurting the value of hockey cards. Also, the hobby seems like it is good for the dealers but, not as good for regular Joes looking to unload a few cards here and there, probably partly due to the reason above and partly due to the over saturation of rookies, parallels, patches and jerseys.

I wish we could get things to a point where individual hockey cards were closer to the prices (on average) to box or case prices when you add up the number of cards in a box or case which leads me to the part below.

There was an article/blog/post I read a while back where the author broke down the average return per case/box of each brand of cards for a year if they were sold individually on ebay. For example, upper deck series 1 would provide an average return of 70% of a box or case price and upper deck the cup would have an average return of 35%. I can't find this article anymore so, if someone could provide a link or p.m. me the link, I would really appreciate it.

To me the problem is that most sellers have very little patience. So many sellers want to sell their cards now and list their cards at auction starting at $0.99. Sure you may get a bidding war but those are few and far between.

Now if sellers would list using a Buy it Now with Best Offer you can control what your cards will sell for. The problem is that it usually takes longer than a week to sell it this way.

In my opinion the only way to list a card at auction is to start the auction at the price that you want to sell it for. If it sells then you are happy and if you get numerous bids then it is just a bonus. The one other reason to list at auction is to list the cards the days or the day after a new product is out or if it is a rare card of a popular player that you are fairly certain that numerous people would bid on it.

Part of the problem is people disregard to value of base and low end inserts. These hold value too and need to be calculated into the return on a case. If a seller knows how to package low end cards the value of their breaks increase.

The return is good on these lower-end products like UD1/2 and OPC/Score at release because there are so many set builders, so it's easy to make a buck here and there with small inserts. It takes some patience to list and deal em all, but that's where you get your return.

But there're more

*Ebayer who refuses to ship outside USA or NA is slowly draiing out all passion for the hobby for my part...or already on the border nof to quitting already now...

*Unreasonable sellers/buyers who wants too much from you becuase you're collecting a certain player or set and they're trying to exploiting you so much as possible with like $400 for a $50 card only becuase you're collecting that player on the card...or the opposite when they wants too little in return when you actually has the better one.

*Greedy buyers who don't wanbt to pay $5 for the shipping for 3-6 cards or so long they weights below 100grams then from sweden but in the return wants $20-$30 in shipping when we buys their cards for $5...too many are trying to recouping so much as possible with those faked shipping rates when they're selling....

*Too buyers/sellers many gets angry quickly when they doesn't gets exactly what they wants and requires too much from us for such little effort in return from themselves!

This is exactly how I sell on ebay. I could not agree more with letting your auctions sit at the lowest price you would take and being patient on buy it now or best offer fixed price listings. Auctions work on hot players or recently released items when the hype is there. For other cards just wait it out and you will be shocked at some of the offers you receive.
