Almost all of my PC guys are retired. That is how I prevented this.
When I got into my PC guys, they were playing for the Leafs, so they will always be Maple Leafs to me. Once I got to know them, I then collected them because of who they were to me, and the team allegiance became less important. Wendel Clark, Borje Salming and Frank Mahvolich are my main hockey PC's. Wendel was my inspiration as far as my own being a player. I wear 17 because of him. Borje was the first Swede in the HNL, so that is for the "Homeland", and Mahvolich was who my dad idolized growing up.
I find it hard to stick with many current players since they switch teams so much. I don't feel like I get to know them since when they leave Toronto I they fall to the edges of my radar screen. I tend to gravitate to the muckers and corner grinders I guess, but not ehough to really pursue PC's yet

I've been lucky enough not to have to worry about this... yet. Was a huge Bure fan and collector back in the day, but my PC got stolen in a home breakin shortly before his trade to the Panthers, and I didn't have the heart to restart it from square one at the time. The Sedins have been with the 'nucks for long enough that even if they were to do a Ray Bourque and go to another team to take one shot at winning a Cup I think I could handle it (and heck might even enjoy a few more interesting patch cards if they went somewhere with nice jerseys). Thankfully with Toronto being years away from contending I don't have to worry about the twins going there.

With Enroth, I didn't mind the trades so far in his career. Like @sedinfan, I'm kind of excited about the possibility of new memorabilia card (If Enroth even gets some newer cards in the near future). But it's the way it is in sports sometimes.
When looking at my few PC's, I have to keep in mind that it's the athletes that you look up to, and you have to keep the team separate if you're collecting a PC player. It can be difficult, especially if the player you like is drafted through your favourite team. Do the best you can though, or pick another player you like.
Best of luck everyone, hoping the best for you PC Players (or teams - unless you're facing my Maple Leafs)

I think it would be weird if Tuukka was ever traded but it wouldn't bother me too much because I collect him because he's Tuukka not because he's a bruin, though that is very much a massive bonus. I don't really team collect though, I keep cards of current oilers and bruins if I pull them but I don't actively search them out or even keep all of them.

Long time since I've dealt with this, lol.
I can remember being a kid, and my favorite player was Gretzky (wasn't he everyone's?) and the he was traded, so my new favorite player was Messier. The he was traded, so my new favorite player was Bill Ranford. This was all before I was really collecting cards.
By the time Ranford was traded to Boston, I guess I was old enough to understand the business side of the sport a little better, and he stayed my favorite player. I was collecting cards by that time, and continued to get new Bill Ranford stuff whenever I could.
Of course now, the modern hobby, it isn't really a thing. I collect a guy that hasn't played in 16 years, so it's not something I worry about. When non-Oilers stuff comes out of him, I actually really like it. Gives more variety. Most exciting release for me in the last bunch of years was when he was added to Motown Madness. If I were approached by a card company and asked "What kind of Bill Ranford cards would you like to see next?" Washington & Tampa would be at the top of my list.
Having said all that, I get where you're coming from. I've got a bunch of Hall / Eberle / Yak / RNH stuff. I would imagine that if they're traded, I'll want to dump most of it pretty quickly.

Well let's see..... I'm not fond of the Rangers. Can't stand the Flyers, and just don't like the Bruins! With that said I still collect Jagr!! lol
I used to cheer for the Pens when he was there. I was kinda meh when he went to the Capitals. As a Ranger I still liked him, just not the team. When he came back the NHL to the Flyers I remember saying it could have been worse and it'd be the Bruins... Low and behold a trade from the Stars took care care of that gut wrench. I didn't mind the Devils because I used to cheer for them back in the 80's, and now I am just comfortable with him as a Panther. Besides that's where Stumpel ended his NHL Career, and I was okay when he went there too.Searching for: Jagr, Palffy, Stumpel, and Boyd
***Doing some massive updating. Please be patient!***

My PC player got traded, won a pair of Cups, his body broke down, he got busted for drug smuggling, was bought out by his team, and was out of hockey for a half year.
Any Mike Richards collectors out there?

I collected Bobrovsky since his rookie season in Philly, when he was traded to Columbus I thought it could be fun and lead to some nice patches and a change of scenery in the cards. After one season in Columbus I lost interest as I didn't really care for watching Jackets games just to watch one player so I wound up giving up on the PC and sold it after he won the Vezina and his cards had a slight raise in price.
Had he not been traded to the Jackets and went to almost any other team I would probably still be collecting him.
