Beckett is becomming more and more of a trading thing. i know now that basically all trades come around a bv thing. I just think its great cuz they promised they would not advertise there grading service in there own magazine when it first cam eout. Now you are looking at consistant adds LOL

The resellers are people that i dont know. They think they can make a living off it but they must be getting pretty dang lucky to cuz i just dont see it happening

    A card's "value"...

If cards are selling for 10% of their worth, doesn't that mean they're "worth" less than you think? If Beckett says it's worth $15, but it never sells for more than $3, isn't it really worth $3? IMHO, Beckett puts too high a book value on stuff...

Beckett, I thought, was only supposed to be a reflection of what cards are going for in the market. I am not sure if they are taking Ebay into effect, but it seems since Ebay has become such a phenomenon, that I think they would.

If the cards are truly not worth what Beckett is listing them for, then the card companies should follow suit and lower the prices of their boxes. I've never bought a box of cards that total was worth only half of the price of the box. More times than not, the cards total are booked more than the box.

Example: You might buy a box of 2003 Leaf Certified. If you're really lucky, you can get a box of this for 80 bucks, but realistically you're looking more at around 100. Who is going to spend a hundred dollars on a box of football cards that might have 3 or 4 GU's, that could book for $100 but only sell for like $30 on Ebay. That's a 70 dollar hit, and in our countries troubled times and the poor economy, who is going to do that? Nobody, especially when you can get the cards you only want without having to deal with the ratios, and pay only a fraction of the price of the box. If that kept up, nobody is going to buy the boxes, and in turn, there won't be any cheap cards to buy anymore on Ebay. Not everyone is going to pull a Emerald card that might get you most of your money back.

It's great for everyone except the people who buy boxes. Is this Kazaa or something?

I have always considered card buying to be a legal lottery. You are buying a box and hoping to get a hit that would payoff more then you have invested in it

If you don't get 56% of your investment back on your box, you'd have a better chance making some cash on some scratch off tickets here in Michigan.

I see tons of Freshman Fabric cards going for under $10 bucks, some even under $5 on Ebay...the packs at the store here are $12. Does that make sense? The cards should be worth at least the price of the pack, especially if it's game used, and a rookie on top of that!

Yea, supposedly much of that goes to the schools here in Michigan, but with that kind of payout, and with teachers losing jobs everywhere, it kinda makes you wonder.

Ok, I am probably going to get bashed for sticking up for resellers but please consider this...a 3.00 shipping charge covers not only postage but packing supplies, card protection supplies, listing fees, featured auction fees, and that darn fee paypal charges you when you receive payment. We are not trying to gouge the auction winners, we are just sharing the cost of offering the product.
