Hey pod how bout that UCLA Michigan game today?

dtownlions33 - it was a pretty good game, despite the fact we lost.

My standards for UCLA is so low, it's pathetic!

last year, we were 12-19, one of our worst in 50 years!

so, this year, I am seeing UCLA play good, and a lot of times, great defense. But the free throw shooting is abysmal! and our offense isn't too good either.

Michigan looks great -- very quick, athletic kids!!!

1/3/04 update: UCLA opens Pac-10 play with a 77-66 win over Oregon St at Pauley Pavilion....

in a game where the Beavers dominated in the first half, leading by 10, only to see UCLA clamp down in second half and outscore OSU by 21.

a good defensive game yet again by the Bruins, and the offense scored just enough.

Freshman Trevor Ariza is looking GOOD!, with a career high 24 points

Dijon had a terrible game, with a lousy 6 points

Cedric Bozeman (who I once upon a time compared to Magic) had 3 points - boy, is this guy a lousy free throw shooter, esp. for a guard.

1/4 update: 2 days after beating Oregon St at Pauley,

UCLA upsets Oregon at Pauley Pavilion, for their 2nd straigh Pac-10 win ,and are now 2-0.

Didn't get a chance to see this game...so I can't say much about it.

But, before I get premature joculation (hehehe), this is 2 HOME games. Most teams win, if they win, at home....but it's the road wins that make you a team ready for the Final Four!

1/7/04 update: UCLA 48 - 45 over Wash. ST

boy, you talk about no scoring!!

didn't get to watch b/c no local TV

so, can't comment, other than to say we are 3-0 in pac-10 play, and are 7-3 overall

not bad, considering we won 6 games all of last year!!!!!

1/10/04 update: UCLA 86-84 over Washington

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!!

we had an 11 point lead with 2 minutes left

stupidly decided to play keepaway without any thoughts to scoring points, and Washington came back to force OT

that last 2 minutes of regulation was just HORRIFIC, and had me cursing UCLA left and right as the Huskies score 11 points to tie it!!

but, UCLA came back in OT, and are now 4-0 in pac-10 play, tied with Stanford.

UCLA now is 8-3

last season, we won a whopping 9 total games......here's hoping we continue winning to make the NCAA Tourney

let's see how we do vs. Stanford and Arizona - the true tests!!

1/15/04: UCLA beats Az St for their 5th straight Pac-10 win

it wasn't on TV, so I didn't get to see the game

now, the big game comes, as #7 ranked Arizona Wildcats come to Pauley Pavilion on Saturday

Az just lost to USC today, and are 2-2 in Pac-10 play

can we beat the Wildcats?

1/22/04 update: well, after going 5-0 in Pac-10 play, we played the two best teams in Pac-10, Arizona and Stanford, back-to-back

and promptly got our heads handed to us!

we got spanked every which way.

We certainly can play defense, but our offense is just horrendous!

here's hoping we at least beat enough teams to get into the tourney!!
