In the USA, our wonderful Democrats passed a law that reduced the dollar amount you receive before you get a 1099 down from $20,000 to $600. I used to sell but now not worth it as I don't want to pay the government any more money than I already pay. There are certain rules on how this works but simply not worth it for me.

In the US you were always required to report any and all income. The $600 threshold is just for marketplace facilitators to produce a 1099. Plus, just because you're reporting income, it doesn't mean it's taxable. You may be selling at break even or at a loss. Don't have to pay tax on that.

It is just me or does is seem like less and less people are posting here everyday. A year ago the hockey boards seemed to be very busy, now you only see a handful of posters make new posts everyday.

I this the hobby on a sharp down turn? Do people not care anymore? Is everybody broke?

Expect things to get worse. Upper Deck continues to release products with declining quality, fewer and fewer hits, and ever increasing prices for boxes that include fewer goodies than past products have offered. Combine that with everything else in life costing so much more, and more people are going to be giving a hard pass to the hobby as a whole.

Apparently sometime this month eBay will no longer allow box breaks at all, except for only 10 sellers total in North America that will be allowed.

So.. now who is going to be breaking all of these over-priced products? Hopefully we see the prices of boxes fall over the next year if this is actually the case.

Several articles from last month about this. I found this one fairly interesting, https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.co...oved-accounts/ . I haven't read it in depth but it says that they will approve who can or can't do breaks.

From the article, "eBay says it is in the process of contacting breakers it has approved to continue selling on its platform. Others who haven’t gotten the OK received the emails on Wednesday and eBay isn’t taking applications. In short, if you’re approved, eBay will let you know."

Didn't see a number limit but It probably isn't too high a number. It is supposed to begin July 18 .

Yes, between EBay and there fees and the crazy shipping rates people charge and now the $600 rule, it has taken the fun out of selling!

I used to sell lots of random things on ebay but what turned me off was when they dropped paypal and required a Bank Acct to access ebay funds. I haven't had a bank acct since 2010 when Wells Fargo charged me 5 $35 overdraft fees for 5 seperate $2 Ebay transactions that were made when there was money in my acct. I've just used a Direct deposit debit card ever since. These are actual bank cards with routing and account numbers but for whatever reason EBAY doesn't let you use CHIME/Paypal/Venmo accts to access funds. So I don't sell anymore/try to buy things to sell anymore and I have funds that have been on ebay for several months that I can't access because I'm not getting another Bank Account with potential Fees.

    I still lurk.

Before things like IG / Twitter / FaceBook forums were the place to be.

I remember new trade thread, new sales posts, new show and tell posts and how crazy the box break section used to be a few days after any release.

Sadly, the way of the forum does not appeal to the younger generation / keep up with most peoples lifestyles today. I can communicate quicker with someone via social media. I can snap pictures quicker and share them quicker ..... and I can reach a larger audience there and hence have more people to trade with / sell to / buy from.

There is also no arguments as to how to find the proper value off most cards. Sure, people may not agree on a cash value on their card all the time, but its easier when people are talking the same currency rather than still relying on the Beckett.
