    Potential trade

    Hey guys...

A member here recently offered to trade me a 1991 Stadium Club Brett Favre RC for my 2006 Topps Chrome Maurice Jones-Drew RC autograph. I turned down his offer, and he became condecending towards me. His argument was that the Jones-Drew only books $40, while the Favre RC books $50.

Now, I hardly ever go by sell values when I trade, but I just couldn't justify trading a super hot card that's regularly selling for $50+ for a RC that regularly doesn't hit $20.

I don't know...what I in the wrong here? Did he have a right to become condescending towards me? I think I have a little ground to stand on here. I decided that if I trade the Jones-Drew, I'm looking for $100 in book value. I think that's fair for a card selling for $50. Am I wrong?

I honestly don't have a problem with people who go by sell value, my problem is with the people who go by whatever benefits them (not saying you're one of them.) If you're going to go by sell value, go by sell value, or if you're going to go by book value, go by book value, not both. The only time it doesn't really irritate me is when the sell value and the book value are so awesomely apart, then it's understandable. I don't think any of this really applies to your situation, but this was an opportunity to let off a good rant.

wow a $100 may be a little high since the card only bv for $40 once football season is over you will be able to pick up the drew jones auto for cheaper but everyone is on the bandwagon now but once baseball starts and a certain player gets hot you will be able to pick them up cheap. Just my opinion no way would i trade $100 bv for the auto. I would wait about another month and pick one up for cheap. After the nfl draft this year they will be all over everyone from the draft. just like ronnie brown and Carnell williams. Just my 2 cents worth

As OGLESBYC mentioned, I would never personally offer $100.00 in BV for the Jones Drew, but you will find morons who will, and if they do offer that, nothing to be ashamed of, However, i dont think I could be one of those people and say, "Hey I want $100 for this card that books $40 because the guy is hot, thats just a little hypocritical to me, but Poof, who cares, U have every right to turn down a trade,

Drew stuff has been undervalued all season though, and will most certainly go up. Im sure it will take a jump pretty soon.

Would I trade the Drew for it? Heck No! And Im unbiased, since I hate the pack. Favre is a great player, but his rookies are a dime a dozen, and as you said, it doesnt reach $20 on Ebay. Its up to you though, why should someone get angry at you when its YOUR card to deal?

I think the key here is what you intended to do with the card. If the Favre was for your PC I'd say go by the bv and do the deal. If you were looking to move the card later on then sell value should be considered. I know many who won't trade an auto for a base or gu card period, and to me that's perfectly ok. But if value is your only standard, he was making you a fair offer. That being said however, no one should become condescending when a potential trade soen't work out. That's just part of trading.

Yeah, I'm a huge Jags fan and have been wanting a Drew auto for some time but am not going to spend an arm and a leg for it. I figure they'll be down in a few months and I can pick up some then for my PC.

Thanks for the replys guys. I think I'm probably just going to sell the Drew when I get it. I feel almost dirty having it in my possession, because it puts me in the situation of having to go by sell value. I could probably sell it and pick up a terrific Packer autograph for my PC.

I was thinking $100 BV because the person that trades for it is almost certainly going to run right to E-bay and sell it off. I mean, come on, ever since I put it on my site, its the ONE CARD that everyone asks for when I ask for something of theirs. If you figure that most E-bay cards sell for 30-35% book, then if I ask $100 in BV for a card that you could turn around and sell for $50 on ebay, then really, they are getting a deal.

I think when I get the Drew, I'll offer it up on here for a nice Packer autograph. I'd really like a high-end A.J. Hawk for it. If no one bites, I'll sell. I really, really don't want this card.
