[QUOTE=SenatorCollector;15355526]But, what about the previous 60 years?[/QUOTE
Start with Ballard as he would not spend to build a contender as he kept saying how many more tickets will i sell. Carlton street cash box was sold out every game. Nowadays it is becoming different as merchandising and TV revenue are now in play.
Bad management and ownership since the Ballard years.I can go on from there but it doesn't matter.as what is past is past. They new need to have a better long term projective. When they signed the core 4 it was not too bad but then the pandemic kicked in basically freezing the salary cap. If it had kept growing they would have been able to add important pieces but as it was stuck they were stuck and those signings did not age well.

Waf, exactly! Ballard knew he didn't need to produce a winning product, fans would pay. By the time fans wised up, MLSE was too much of a money maker. Now, it's become more about ROI, than on actually caring what fans think
Always looking for Senators cards! Must be a draft pick, or the card is identifiable as a Senators card before I want it!
As most of you know, I suffered a fairly severe stroke in April '25, so mail goes out anytime!

as being one of the many in attendance in 1964 when the leafs won the cup (standing room only seats) at MLG i can truly say i doubt if they will win again in my lifetime. we moved east in 1967 so didnt get the chance to see that live. leafs are garbage. and now is the best time to trade 88 and 34. i would keep woll and knies, everybody else is expendable except i think it would difficult to find any team wanting to give up much for the rest of them. they need a total rebuild but i dont know if the fans would be patient for another 5 years without being in contention for the cup let alone the playoffs.
also i need to point out the leafs had a shot at gretzky after he left LA but ballard remarked why do i wanna pay huge $$$ for gretzky when we are sold out every game. there is no profit in that. kinda lets you know what ballard considers more important - $$ or winning. still hoping the oilers have a shot but starting to doubt that too

I am from Vancouver and the Canucks sucks just as much as the Leafs. Probably more Leafs fans here than Canucks fans.
Too bad jameslacarte got banned. I saw some of the old post, I guess he didn't like the Habs.

Have to disagree a bit here. MLSE has never had a problem spending to the cap been up against it for 6 or so years, so not all about ROI. Ballard would not spend near the cap even though there was none back then. They just need to spend/trade wiser and have a coach/gm that will play prospects with proven talent to let them develop instead of proven talent with players at the end of their careers who are slower less driven and probably make the same amount of mistakes.
I am guessing that during the Dubois/Keefe tenor where they played a more entertaining game with better results (except at playoff time) that merchandising sales and ticket sales where better. Even drawing more people to watch games before the playoffs giving them better leverage in any broadcasting rights equalling a better return on investment
This said i am surprised they got a 1st for Roy. Probably a 29-32 pick so close to second rounder.
Lets see what else they can recover.
