Maybe not the worst but the most tragic was the tackle that ended Bo Jackson's career.

On a related note, the most awesome injury was when Bo broke Boz's pride on that goal line stand.

    Wasn't that Chris Spielman ?

How about the minor league baseball coach that was killed when a line drive foul ball hit him in the head a month or so ago ? I would think any fatality would have to be the worst.

It was a Thanksgiving game. I remember driving back to MI from my grandmother's house in OH listening to the broadcast. That was bad stuff.

theismann's leg was sick (compound leg fracture)

agree with most of the others (krumrie was nasty, utley as well - was actually 16 years ago jay, started the "thumbs up" when leaving the field on a cart/stretcher). here's a few that haven't been mention:

dennis byrd (1992) - similar to utley, but played the other side of the ball. they did a made-for-tv movie about his life/injury

napoleon mccallum (1994 MNF) - this gets my vote for worst ive seen live (even worse than theismann!!). his injuries consisted of a ruptured artery in his left knee, 3 torn ligaments, ripped the calf and hamstring muscle right off the bone, and suffered severe nerve damage....bad stuff!!

there are ALOT worse than these, but as far as mainstream sports/athletes the ones mentioned are about as bad as it gets!!
