The world (outside of the internet) has too much respect for the guy to flat out tell him he's starting to embarass himself by believing losing is the best they can do.

I didn't say he was still as good as he used to be...or even close. I agree w/monkey that he probably does very little actual coaching. But the fact of the matter is that, although he may be slipping, he has still brought so much to PSU football that he has earned the right to do what he wants now...how many years has he given everything he has to PSU football? How many great teams has he given the PSU fans? Would you rather have had a mediocre past 40 years with a few bright spots and beat Ill last week? Or have the great teams that PSU has had over the years, but have a down year every now and then?

And it's not just PSU fans, it's fans in general these days. Bobby Bowden is going through almost exactly the same thing at FSU. I don't like PSU and FSU is my 2nd most hated college ever (DUKE SUCKS!), and to hear people say Joe Pa and Bowden should quit (let alone the idiots who say they should be fired!) just gives me more reason to hate those schools.

And siv, please don't bend my cards from our trade just b/c I disagree with you :)...jk...yours were mailed this morning btw.

Anything Joe has done earlier in his career gets diminished when he starts getting free passes for his team to underperform.

Whether he does all of the coaching or none of the coaching, Joe is still the "head" coach so the buck$ stop there.

lol....yeah, the buck does stop there....are you aware of the amount of money that joe brings in, just off of boosters alone? money is the only thing that is a trade off to winning in college sports (notre dame is a prime example - better for the team to join a conference, but the money is in being an independant).

joe gibbs is the head coach of my skins, but has little to do with the team....he's just an ornament like paterno....why is all the blame on joe?? if he does very little, why not place some blame on the coordinators / AD / etc?? the kids love to play for joe, the school loves joe, and joe brings in money - thats all that matters!!

let me know when the "Fire Joe Pa" rallies start on campus (cause that will never happen)

Joe Pa is the one that gets the heat only b/c nobody knows the coordinators/AD/etc...with baseball, football, basketball, etc etc etc...if a team is doing bad, it's "Fire the coach!" and that's supposed to fix everything. Maybe the players a certain year just aren't as good as they were supposed to be....blame the players every once in a while...blame the people that actually call the bad plays that lose the games...

Joe has to take the blame because it is his school and program. Go here:
    http://gopsusports.cstv.com/sports/m...ootbl-mtt.html

Read the profiles of the offensive assistants and it will be easy to see where the weak link is. Joe makes a fool of himself defending him and the entire offensive operation.

C'mon man, do you really think Joe doesn't get his way in any hiring decision.

I wasn't talking about Galen Hall; he has coaching experience. If you had read Jay Paterno's profile on the page, you would have seen that there was none. He's been in charge of QBs since '99 and they can't think of one sentence to write about him.

I didn't go to Penn State. I went to (former) Division III football power Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. They are 0-4 this year under head coach Frank Girardi (254-90-4 entering this season).

My buddies went to Penn State. They've been crying about this since Penn State tried to run all over Michigan.

well galen is responsible for the offense, not jay....ofcousre jay was just hired for his name....thats just life (our govt works the same way with respect to who gets hired, shouldn't be a shock).

like i said, i hate PS so im actually looking at this from the outside....and it changes every year!! 2 years ago EVERYONE loved joe (can argue that, but i read the local papers, and listed to 2 hours of local sports radio daily - everyone was on the wagon)....now, they are struggling and the first thing ya wanna do is can a legendary coach....the time to fire joe was 15 years ago, but they came to the conclussion that he was more of a positive influence on the school than a negative....so they decided to keep him for the long haul....its all about boosters, and the boosters love him (as do the alumni)....they literaly cant fire the guy, so what do you expect them to do??

and to answer your original question in your last post....no

joe doesn't have much impact on hiring, nor does any college coach - the AD has complete control.....yeah, little paterno was hired cause of joe, but the rest of the staff wasn't hired without the support of the athletic department.

again, joe has VERY LITTLE impact on what happens on the field on saturdays

This article implies that Joe has a lot of influence into who gets hired:
    http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/7112827

Meanwhile at Penn State, Joe Paterno shook up his staff last week hiring former Nittany Lions quarterback Galen Hall as his new offensive coordinator.

Hall, 63, was thrown a bone by Paterno for the second time in his career. In 1989, Hall lost his head coaching job at Florida amid an NCAA investigation into major violations. Paterno made Hall a Penn State grad assistant in 1990. But shortly thereafter the NCAA prohibited Hall from college coaching for five years without the NCAA's approval.

Bobby Bowden doesn't have any say in his coaching staff? Pete Carroll? Charlie Weis?
