first ya said that hall wasn't the problem, it was jay....now your next comment is on joe hiring galen....so which is it?? you said yourself galen had coaching credentials!!!
bobby bowden, probably not.....we are talking about close to 80 year old coaches here (not sure exactly joe/bobby's ages but they are OLD)....im sure carroll and weis have alot to say, but they have also been given that reign by the AD. i dont believe that joe personally went out and found a new coach, if thats what you are implying.
since ya brought up weis, i haven't heard many ND fans asking for weis's head (ive brought it up on here, and i was the only one who thought he should be fired)....and he's only been there 3-4 years!! you want to can a coach whose been there for 50 years, including a 20-5 record and 2 bowl wins the last 2 years....do ya know how dumb that sounds?? last year, he was great....this year, he sucks.....what has joe done in the last 12 months that you think is so different??

John,
The talk about Galen has to do with you saying that "the AD has complete control." That's not true. Paterno surely gets the coaching staff that he wants regardless of what Tim Curley has to say about it.
Jay Paterno should be fired. He's not a capable QB coach. Joe needs to hit the road because he no longer provides effective leadership for the program. You said, "joe has VERY LITTLE impact on what happens on the field on saturdays" and that's true in a direct sense. His influence over the program as a whole though influences everything that does have an impact on what happens on the field on Saturdays.
He should have retired after '05.

lol, alright man.....i know that joe has ALOT less control over football operations than you aparaently think, so no point in arguing over it.....just think its ridiculous that fans are so fickle!! im sure if i search the forum there wasn't a peep from ya when they were winning bowl games last year - again, what has joe done differently this year than last?? ya still haven't answered that question, lol.....cause he hasn't done ANYTHING different from this year to last year....furthermore, where was this post in week 1?? i guess your views on joe are purely based on 2 weeks worth of games (which is how judgements should be made, lol)....PS fans were going nuts 2 weeks ago (they were the best team in the big 10 - thats what all the phone calls were saying)....so, what did joe personally do in the past 2 weeks that "changed their winning ways"?? i know this sounds redundant, but thats what complaining PS fans have become over the last 15 years.....its the same thing over and over (when they lose of course....when they win, they just complain about pitt not comming to play them)

joe can pace his sidelines for another 10 years for all i care, he has very little impact on the game. His main purpose is to serve as a legend on the sidelines & to argue with refs about everything. Almost nothing goes through Joe, Galen AND Jay relay plays to Mike McQuery, who simply repeats the play verbatim to the players. Even though McQuery is sort of a joke in State College, he still holds several PSU passing records & should be coaching QB's, not Wide Receivers. Our entire offensive coaching staff is a catastrophe. Jay Paterno should be a quality control coach...at a high school... & Galen Hall should be retired somewhere.
Morelli can't read a defense to save his life, but nobody at penn state knows how to either. My grandfather used to work in athletics at PSU, (in fact, he was hired by joe paterno back when joepa served as athletic director in the early 70's) and he's been saying for years that if he were a top high school QB, that he would never go to penn state because they don't prepare them properly for the NFL. We've never had a decent QB coach, and that's why we never have a decent pro prospect. Kerry Collins got there on pure talent, & Carolina tinkered with his mechanics relentlessly as a rookie.
As a lifelong Penn State fan who lives in State College and attends multiple home games every year, Joe can stay until he dies for all I care...he's a legend, nuff said!!!

There seems to be a serious loyalty issue with Penn State fans. Very serious.

I second that emotion. Penn State fans, especially near the home office, are way too much like pro fans. Very, very fickle. The Nittany Lions ran into a frustrated, desperate Michigan team. Look, they weren't blown off the field vs. either Michigan or Illinois, so things are not that bad, just blown out of proportion by the bandwagon-abandoning fickles.
Someone brought up Bobby Bowden in this thread, so I'll turn my attention to him. Florida State just beat a good Alabama team, perhaps knocking the Tide out of the Top 25. FSU had lost, what, one or two before that? Didn't read or hear of anyone calling for Bowden to retire/resign.
Here's the thing. Bowden & JoePa are the elder statesmen of college coaches these days. Their teams are not the world-beating powers of past years, but are still well respected. As long as they still have a passion for the game and an ability to teach, they're going to be there. Bottom line.

for all you guys who seem to know about penn state...
i just spoke with my grandfather, who worked in penn state athletics for 22 years & is good friends with joepa...he also still works at the stadium on game day, before retreating to the penn state suite in the luxury box...i myself have sat in this suite before & some of the others who sit in this box regularly are tim curley (Athletic director) & graham spanier (president)...so i would say his knowledge of the penn state football program trumps anybodys on this forum...he told me that curley does not make any football decisions...joepa hired galen hall personally, has complete control of the staffing decisions, and in fact, joepa has the final say on any games being scheduled...he also did verify for me that galen hall & jay paterno do split the play calling duties, which he called "absurd"
hope this at least quells the argument about what powers joepa has...
