I grew up watching(and hating) Jim Brown, and I gotta say that he was the best I ever saw. He was so much bigger than a lot of the guys who were trying to tackle him he just dominated. No matter who you put next-sanders, payton, emmitt, you can make a great arguement for each. Each brought something special to the game. Sanders and Payton had to be more of each teams offense then Emmitt ever did , but Emmitt did last a long time.

I'll give Emmitt props...but just cause he stuck around so long doesn't make him the best in my eyes, he actually should have left earlier than he did. Brown and Sanders left at the right time, and I think you look better when you leave at the right time instead of milking it out for a few extra years just taking up a roster spot.

I never got to watch Jim Brown, but I agree w/palantri's logic. Barry Sanders was just unbelievable to watch...amazing! And they both walked away early...they could've both put up better numbers than Emmitt had they played 15 years.
I put them as my top 2, but I give Barry the nod because he was smaller than the guys he was running against and was still that good...Jim Brown was bigger than a lot of the guys he ran against, he could run over a lot of them.

rings mean squat, you're saying emmitt was best using that reasoning. the reason barry is the best is he did what he did without any help, the key word being """ANY""".

I have to agree that Rings mean nothing. If we based all athletes on Rings, then that Robert Horry guy would be the best basketball player to have lived and not Jordan. You have to consider whats around the player and how much they contributed. In Sanders and Browns case, they basically were the offense. Can you guys name the QBs for the Lions when they had Sanders or the Browns when they had Jimmy? Hell, I'm a Browns fan and the only QBs I know from the Jim Brown days were Milt Plum and Jim Ninowski, and have you guys heard of them? The Cowboys had more offense than just Emmitt, they had other Hall of Famers. Barry and Jim were 80-90 percent of the offense, if not more.

I Am Sorry, But Emmitt Doesn't Belong Any Higher Than 11, If You Took Away His Line And Fullback, Emmitt Wouldn't Have Half The Yards He Has. He Had One Of The Best Offensive Lines Ever Made, And It Was Made By Jimmy Johnson. And How About His Blocking Fullback, Darryl Johnston. Without Them, Emmitt Wouldn't Even Be In The Top 20.
I Can't Figure Out Why The Emmitt Fans Give Him All The Credit, When They Know About His Offensive Line, Darryl Johnston, And The Other 2 Or 3 Hofers On The Team, Or Maybe It Is That They Don't Know. If So, Would Somebody Please Tell Them. Pleeaasseeee.
