One of the best things to do is use a credit card with PayPal cause if anything ever goes wrong, you can always chargeback with your Credit Card company because PayPal is really stupid like that

My suggestion for ebay is to always look for good feedback and make sure that you can pay for the item via paypal with the purchase protection which they just increased.

Since we're talking about old claims, YES YOU SHOULD CALL EVEN WHEN IT HAS BEEN CLOSED, even if its 6 months later!
My situation:
2006 - bought a pair of "graded" cards. When I received the cards, it turns out they weren't graded. Started a Paypal claim. Seller agreed to refund if I returned cards. So I sent the cards, but he claims that they were never recieved.
PAYPAL says: Claim in favour of seller
2007 - one of the seller's alias's lists the SAME CARDS! (they were numbered). So, I bid on and win one of them, confirm that the paypal information in the new account is the same name as the original seller and call Paypal with all my information.
Result = Full refund of original transaction.

that is nothing.....recently sold a bunch of basketball cards on ebay for 145.00 shipped....he paid promptly for the cards but after a week or so decided that the item was not what he thought and filed a complaint against me...HE WON!!! I have to repay the 145.00 and he has to return all the cards I sent which will probably be missing a bunch! PAYPAL DOES SUCK!
