    USA Perfect in Pool Play

    106 USA (5-0) VS (1-4) Germany 57

    GAME RECAP

Team USA may have already clinched the No. 1 seed in Group B and a date with Australia in the Olympic quarterfinals, but the U.S. didn’t want to give medal round contenders any hope on Monday.

Featuring more awesome highlight plays, extraordinary defense and a yearning desire for dominance, USA rolled past Germany, 106-57, to conclude the preliminary round undefeated (5-0) and infuse more fear into its potential future competitors.

Similar to its thumping of Spain on Saturday, the U.S. shot a blistering 11-of-26 from downtown and 55 percent from the field.

    STATS SUMMARY:

    Points:
    Dwayne Wade – 10 (Combined 81)
    LeBron James – 18 (Combined 79)
    Kobe Bryant – 13 (Combined 63)

    Chris Paul – 2 (Combined 16)
    Kobe Bryant – 2 (Combined 12)

    LeBron James – 0 (Combined 22)
    Deron Williams – 5 (Combined 19)
    Jason Kidd – 3 (Combined 11)
    Dwayne Wade – 1 (Combined 9)

    Total Points:
    101 vs China
    97 vs Angola
    92 vs Greece
    119 vs Spain
    106 vs Germany

With 3 games to go (hopefully) the pace is at 824 total points.

    Next game: Australia (3-2)
(Australia 82 vs Croatia 97) (Australia 68 vs Argentina 85) (Australia 106 vs Iran 68) (Australia 95 vs Russia 80) (Australia 106 vs Lithuania 85)

If USA defeats Australia on Wednesday, the U.S. would play the winner of the Argentina-Greece matchup in the semifinals on Friday.

USA One Win Away From Gold

101 USA (TO GOLD MEDAL MATCH) VS (ELIMINATED) ARGENTINA 81

    GAME RECAP

Argentina did all it could to compete with the almighty U.S. Team. Its passion and courage without Manu Ginobili, who left in the first quarter with a foot injury, deserves to be applauded. But similar to the way the rest of the Olympic tournament has gone, the U.S. proved to be too strong, too athletic and too skilled. In its 101-81 triumph on Friday in Beijing to advance to the gold medal game, USA excelled at the free throw line (27-of-36) and also out-rebounded Argentina by 10.

    STATS SUMMARY:

    Points:
    LeBron James – 15 (Combined 110)
    Dwayne Wade – 12 (Combined 101)
    Kobe Bryant – 12 (Combined 100)

    Rebounds:
    Chris Bosh – 10 (Combined 42)
    Dwight Howard – 9 (Combined 41)
    LeBron James – 5 (Combined 36)
    Carmelo Anthony – 4 (Combined 33)

    Assists:
    Chris Paul – 2 (Combined 28)
    LeBron James – 2 (Combined 27)
    Deron Williams – 2 (Combined 24)

    Total Points:
    101 vs China
    97 vs Angola
    92 vs Greece
    119 vs Spain
    106 vs Germany
    116vs Australia
    101 vs Argentina
    732 TOTAL
With 1 games to go the pace is at 837 total points.

The U.S. will challenge Spain (beat by 37 previously), which edged Lithuania earlier in the day, for the gold medal on Sunday at 2:30 a.m. ET.

Argentina, meanwhile, will take on Lithuania for the bronze at 12 a.m. ET.
