How does legalizing marijuana improve the USA?

It would provide more tax revenue, get rid of unregulated, black market marijuana dealers, provide safety and quality regulation in an area that doesn't currently have any, provide legal options for medicinal marijuana, which is very helpful for certain types of illnesses...quite a few ways actually. And it's no more (and most likely less) harmful than alcohol or cigarettes.
How would it harm the USA?

I agree with Pimp. It would turn out so much revenue for the US. Look at amsetrdam. they make bank off of weed sales! There would have to have controls on it, i.e. no driving while high. I have a severly jacked up back, but in the military so i wouldnt be able to do it but if I wasent in I would be a canidate for Medi-mary. Im on so much worse right now, morphine, perkocet, nuronten, all of wich are destroing my liver and have so many side effects that are horibbel (maby TMI but if youve ever taken any thing like i have for a long time, you get stopped up!) with weed i would be able to live a much better life if i could just smoke once a day to relieve my pain and have a lot less side effects then the crap im on now.

We the people of Oregon have passed a vote to legalize marijuana for personal use and the feds stepped in with with some major threats to the state and shut it down, same with doctor assisted suicide.I believe "persuit of happiness"is writen somewhere? As far as helping legalization would enable law enforcement to concentrate their efforts on things that kill and destroy lives

I personally dislike smoke of any kind, and have never or wanted to ever try either cigarettes or pot, but it should be legalized. If cigarettes and alcohol are legal, marijuana should be also. My mom worked back in the hippie days when marijuana was particularly rampant, and she said the regular pot smokers were far more competent workers than the ones who came in with hangovers, so I'd say that it's probably safer than alcohol in terms of abuse potential for many people.

So the main point of legalizing it would be for tax purposes. I've heard that the main problem with this is the fact that people can grow and sell it easily, thus avoiding tax. Growing and selling it independently would have to be illegal, then, which makes the whole process redundant.
Ugh, I just sounded like a republican, didn't I?
