So the main point of legalizing it would be for tax purposes. I've heard that the main problem with this is the fact that people can grow and sell it easily, thus avoiding tax. Growing and selling it independently would have to be illegal, then, which makes the whole process redundant.

    Ugh, I just sounded like a republican, didn't I?

    yep,your a closet repub.
dont forget about all the other things hemp is good for

Good point (not about the closet republican). Also, I live in Oregon and remember that vote as well.

I have to say, I agree with Pimp, biggle, srcole, gsj68 & jammingjames!!!

How does legalizing marijuana improve the USA?

I have read that you are in favor of as many freedoms as possible....how about the freedom to make your own decisions about what you put into your body? You don't even have to be pro-Marijuana to be pro-Legalization!

This is a plant that grows naturally in almost every climate, that has been used by man for thousands of years, that has never killed anybody, that has only been illegal in most parts of the world for less than 100 years...Cannabis is one of the fastest growing biomasses known to mankind, and takes less than 4 months from seeds to harvest...it can be used for food, clothing, paper, plastics, etc...using it would be better on the environment because it would reduce deforestation and current plastics which dont decompose easily

dude its what ever does it really matter if its illigial pepole will smoke it anyway

the point is people still have to hide to smoke it, and have to either grow it, or make shady purchases from a drug dealer in order to get it....in most states, you risk jail time for growing or posessing it...to me, thats why it matters

So the main point of legalizing it would be for tax purposes. I've heard that the main problem with this is the fact that people can grow and sell it easily, thus avoiding tax. Growing and selling it independently would have to be illegal, then, which makes the whole process redundant.

In my opinion, the point of legalizing it would be to reduce our prison population! Right now, American taxpayers pay over $1,000,000,000 (one billion!) per year to jail marijuana users, and over 700,000 Americans are arrested each year on some form of marijuana charges!

However, Growing & Selling it small scale doesn't have to be illegal...I think if you were required to have a business license of some sort for the cultivation and distribution of over say 20 plants, then it wouldn't be that big of a problem. Anything less than that is like having a tomato garden in your back yard!

Furthermore, there are 12 states that currently have some form of Medical Marijuana laws, and several other states that have ballot initiatives coming up involving cannabis

Rep Barney Frank also has 2 bills he introduced to congress that is being reviewed right now...one is the personal use by responsible adults act, and another is calling on the Feds to stop raiding medical marijuana patients.

Los Angeles has asked the Federal government to stop raiding the states Medical Marijuana dispensaries, yet the Feds continue to raid shops run by people like this guy! INSANE!!! The Feds had their 3 daughters taken away from them for 5 weeks!

Here's another guy who ran a California dispensary...must watch!

I think the main point of legalizing it is that it shouldn't be illegal in the first place. The taxation is just another good argument for it that government "should" be able to understand. If it's no more harmful than alcohol or cigarettes, what is the purpose if making it illegal? There are many positive uses and not just those related to smoking it...which can not possibly be said for cigarettes. There are no positive uses for cigarettes, except maybe taking the filters out of them to make a homemade gas mask in the case of biological attack ...but that's a whole different discussion. Plus the fact that not only is it on par w/alcohol and cigarettes, but people are going to prison for many years for having a tiny amount of pot. You're not even arrested for cigarettes, which have been proven to have much more harmful effects to yourself and others, let alone going to prison for several years!

And I agree about being allowed to grow a small amount for your own personal use. You can legally brew your own beer as long as you aren't distributing it and I think marijuana would work fine with a law of that sort as well.

The fact that it could provide the government revenue doesn't excite me at all. Government sucks.

Marijuana is already available for medical purposes.

I don't know, I guess I just don't see why we would want to introduce such a deterrent as marijuana to a primarily teenage society that will continue to get lazier and lazier. We're going to be raising drunk, high, bums...paranoia, I know...But how can we complain about lack of work ethic and then legalize pot?

lol...sorry man, but I think you missed the point...which is fine

It's not about introducing marijuana to a teenage society to make them lazier...it's about KEEPING PEOPLE OUT OF JAIL!!!

I'm okay with whatever position you have, but I just want to know if you're fine with marijuana users going to jail...then I'll leave you alone...promise!

And where exactly is marijuana available for medical purposes...as far as in available without fear of the federal government raiding the place?

I would just like to see and I'm sure u have where you got this info? 1 bil on JUST MARIJUANA users????

Anyway I don't really have a problem with it, however I agree with the above post because I do konw from experience that marijuana is a gateway drug leading to worse outcomes. The only thing I have seen from everyone that marijuana is good for is for the hemp and to smoke ONLY for medical reasons.
Therefore, unless all of you have medical issues that need be treated or feel as though you honestly think that growing marijuana will help our economy that much then by all means. However, if that is the case then why not have male plants to grow in abundance for the medical purposes and only male plants for the hemps products mentioned?

If you oppose to that idea then you truely just are a stoner

As long as marijuana is against the law, I'm fine with users and dealers going to jail.

Medical marijuana is legal in Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Montana Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, and Vermont. No government raids there. It's a state issue (as it should be).
