How is it greed? The seller is protecting his investment with a reserve. Looking at his other auctions, knowing he sells cards that are graded, it appears he knows exactly what he is doing.
I have put a reserve on a $500 card (reserve of $550). Listed it at .99 and let it run for 10 days. This brings exposure to a high end card, people add it to the watch list and wait to see what happens. I did not sell the card in the first 10 days. I then re-listed it immediately without a reserve at .99, the card sold for almost $900 for a few reasons.

His card is like the Wagner of football. $100K is not out of the question on this item.

Protecting his investment, do you actually think this guy paid $40k for this card? I'd also disagree with your statement that this Joe Montana 9.5 is like the Wagner of football.

I do know this, the more cards you submit, the better deal you get, which doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that relationships develop, there are dealers that have too cozy a relationship with grading companies. There are several dealers I know that regularly go to dinner with grading employees, I've seen them out at restaurants during the Sun Times shows in Chicago. Another dealer I know regularly submits thousands of cards to PSA and gets better grades than cards deserve because he knows people. IMO, grading is a bit shady in some respects, a lot of it is who you know if you want to make the big money in cards.

    The "Wagner of football cards?"

    hardly

The Wagner of football cards is the 1935 National Chicle Bronko Nagurski, which in an 8, fetches nearly $60k.

And yes, relationships do develop and very cozy relationships do develop. If anyone thinks there is a true separation of client and company with any of these grading you are truly fooling yourself.

Do I think they make a point to purposely make egregious errors on grading in order to help out a dealer, absolutely not, their integrity and shareholders would not hold up for very long under the scrutiny that would assuredly follow. However, do I believe "tweeners" get the benefit of the doubt. 110%

Well said, but I would say some grades tweeners get are mighty generous.
