I think comparing guns to cars might be a bad comparison since many more factors go into car accidents than gun accidents.

Well do you see them as being wrong? I sure dont. Its a hobby, and an American one at that.

We would have to steepen the penalties then. I am pro death penalty and anyone who kills or uses a gun on another human should be put down.

Yeah, I think thats the only way anything would improve. Also, intensify the background check, and make very sure that the wrong people dont get guns. And if they do, find the person that sold them, and prosecute him to the fullest extent.

If a person wants to kill another human, they don't need a gun to do it. Like others have said, outlawing guns only takes guns away from those willing to follow those laws. People that use guns for illegal purposes are already breaking the law, I don't think they'll have a problem adding one more law broken to the list.
And the hobby thing is not bull. You may know people who collect guns as a hobby, but you obviously don't "get it". I know people who collect beanie babies. I don't get it, I think it's extremely dumb...but they get it and that's what matters. It's their hobby and they have their reasons for it, it doesn't matter what I think of it. And it's not the people who collect guns as a hobby that cause the problems.

So, they wouldn't mind if the fire pins were all taken out and the barrels were permanently shut (or whatever you can do to make a fire-arm harmless)?
They serve a collector's purpose, right?

Yes, they would mind and no, it's not just for collection purposes...for most it's not just collecting, it's the full participation in the hobby. That includes sports shooting, hunting, etc. That would be like collecting sports cars, but never driving them...some people do that, but the majority prefer to take them out for a spin.

And lukehoyt (in response to this comment, are you serious?)
Ok the hobby thing is bull.
Cards don't fire small objects at a fast rate. Cars don't have a barrel you can point at someone.
Guns are very dangerous and need to be cut out of the American lifestyle.
Many people collect guns, including my father... he has never shot anyone...he either uses them to hunt, or he just has them (for the same reason people have cards, they like them)...
