show me proof.... i know the one here isnt bad at all... with the unemployment rising there are people here locally that would much rather be in there on work release and joining the basketball league than on the outside looking for work and starving

have you ever spent one night in a community jail?

heres a fine example of someone that should nto have been on the street:

    http://news.aol.com/article/oakland-police-shooting/392279?icid=main|main|dl1|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fnews. aol.com%2Farticle%2Foakland-police-shooting%2F392279

I love his cousin at the end:

"He was not a monster." Yes he was honey, and so are the retarded bystanders that taunted the police being shot at. They should all be forbidden from dialing 911, and I hope they all get shot in the head themselves and no one comes to help them. Absolutely disgusting. But I guess he was never convicted, so hes really a good guy.

    Speaking of that guy....

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090323/...ice_shot_ca_39

OAKLAND, Calif. – Relatives of the man suspected of fatally shooting three Oakland police officers said Sunday the 26-year-old parolee was frustrated about not finding work and feared returning to jail.

I guess it's because jail is soft like Charmin.

Makes sense to me I don't like prison so I kill a few cops.

    ok, a few things:

    1. so, according to some, you need first hand experience only if we disagree with you? if we agree with you it is ok if we don't?

    2. no one is allowed to post opinion, even if it is a knowledgable opinion based on experience in the subject we are discussing

rockman- you do notice that the story you posted dealt with his families comments right? what did you expect them to say "he hates cops so that is probably why he did it"

of course not, they are going to find a way to blame the economy, the cops, jail, everything except the guy who actually commited a crime.

Obviously what the guy did was wrong and there is no excuse. However it seems clear that that he had spoken to his family about his fears. I don't think the family is trying to blame anyone, just give an explanation of his state of mind at the time. If he was not afraid of jail and thought it was comfortable and would improve his life (As some of you claim it does) why wouldn't he just surrender and go back?

My brother in law is an officer at a prison (not a barely-funded county jail), and it's no vacation from what I hear. There seem to be an unbelievable amount of idiots out there who think cable T.V. and oatmeal for breakfast is lavish. These same idiots fail to take into consideration the intangibles that are forefitted once imprisoned.

I take it into account I couldn't care less though.

If you commit a crime severe enough to serve time in prison I don't care what you have to forfeit.

So you're more interested in what they gain (which is nothing) rather than what they lose (ie, family contact, credibility, etc.)? No, you're not even close to closed-minded.

What should you gain from committing a crime?
