Tutall, I believe you live in Indiana....I could be wrong, any way if that is the case I have a couple questions.
Have you ever done any of these things.
stand in a bar, receive a drink on the house, carry a cocktail from the bar to a table, drink from your own bottle in a bar, gossip or talk behind a persons back, or work less than 6 days a year on a public road since turning 18?
Because if so you have broken the law in Indiana, and based on what you are saying, you should not have T.V, shouldn't drink anything but water, and you should spend a period of time in an empty cell in jail.
Edit: And according to GrimUSMC you are a criminal and can not be rehabilitated.

actually I am not missing the point. We have had threads on everything from religion, to the war, to drugs, to prison and no one has ever said you had to have first hand experience to have an opinion. For what it is worth, I do see your point. If I were deciding who to listen to, I would listen to someone who had been to prison over someone who didn't. However, I wouldn't discount that persons opinion. I know people who have spent plenty of time in prison as inmates and have spent some time there myself doing prison ministry. While I don't claim first hand knowledge, I do think I can have an educated opinion.

but what you're missing is that you aren't calling it a vacation. For the fifth time, you may have any opinion you want. I'm not saying you can't...
but if your opinion is that jail isn't tough or that it's a vacation, i'm gonna call you out on your BS, because that's what it is....BS
and I will discount ANYBODY's opinion who speaks of something as if they have personally experienced it (what else can you possibly be saying when you call it easy, a vacation and comfortable) when they really don't have any knowledge of the subject...
I also notice nobody has mentioned the fact I pointed out for profit jails in America, which apparently a page ago nobody had any idea they existed

for what it's worth, I knew about for profit jails. I haven't decided how I feel about them. In order to have a problem, we would have to assume that people are being put in there even though they are innocent just so someone can make a profit.

First off Red, I will say I agree on your stance of victimless crimes. I have said from the begining that rehabilitaion is nto possible in REPEAT VIOLENT OFFENDERS, not the dumb kid that shoplifted a bottle of Cologne.
Now, as for sayign personal drug use is a victimless crime is nto a true statement. Drug use is probably the single biggest community destroyer. It causes poverty and has destroyed neighborhoods, so it is far from victimless.
That is very weak, and only people without a valid point or good argument go to extremes like this.

O.k you guys are missing my point....
You're making everything in this thread black and white, when there is indeed a gray area. Just because you are in jail does not mean you are automatically a bad person, it does not mean you can not be rehabilitated, it does not mean you should be 100% removed from society and never have a chance to rejoin.
Some of you guys think jails are over populated because it's to cushy and people have no problem going.... When really it has more to do with the laws people are put in jail for.

The above is 100% correct. Imprisonment seems to be the answer to every crime. We need to find alternatives.

No one said that you should go to prison for every crime.
Prison should be reserved for more violent criminals and they should not have a cushy stay.

if your a repeat violent offender, yes it does. You should never be allowed in society again. You commit a violent crime, you get one shot at rehabilitation, then your done, I dont care how sorry you are. We tollerate too much violence because we dotn have the stomach, and everyone seems to be a bleeding heart liberal.
