You do realize jails are funded on the public dime right? They shouldnt have any rights, they shouldnt be allowed to do much more than stay alive in there.... In most cases they took away the rights or created fear to a law abiding citizen... they are in jail for a reason.. Anything more than a 6x8 cell with a toilet in my opinion is more than they need. And about the guy that killed the cops... im pretty sure a jail in Oakland California is a little different place than small town america...

No offense, but not everyone in prison is a cop killer or menace to society who is beyond rehabilitation

Really? I figured they were all independently-owned by private investors.

why do you think our prison population is so high in America? Why are we the most imprisoned country in the world?
More & More prisons are becoming privatized with the intent of turning a profit...You have the Corrections Corporation of America which operates over 60 facilities, You have the GEO Group, and you have the Cornell Companies Inc who operates 71 facilities in 15 states. These 3 companies all had revenues over a billion dollars last year and all 3 posted gains today on the NYSE.
and ensberg, NO you do not have to experience something to have an opinion...but if you have the balls to say jail is a vacation with nice furniture and comfortable beds, i'm gonna call you out on it. And if you've never spent a night in jail, I'd like to know where you are getting your information from....fair enough?
Jail is one of the must humiliating, dehumanizing, soul shattering experiences any person can experience. I take great offense to anybody who thinks that jail is a place to relax and enjoy a vacation from your responsibilities.
For anybody who's seen me posting on here since last summer, you will know that one of my main issues with America is the prison population. It needs to be decreased dramatically through more selective prosecution, fairer sentences, and decriminilazation of victimless crimes such as prostitution and personal drug use.

actually no. because according to what you wrote, you can have opinions on Iraq even though you haven't been there because you are speaking against it. But we can't have opinions on prison because we havent been there. It doesn't make sense and it seems as though you are attempting to say who is allowed an opinion and who isn't.

well, you're wrong, again...
if you would've read back about 4 pages you would see i already addressed this exact point...i have NEVER said Iraq is a cakewalk, a vacation, or that it has nice comfortable beds & furniture. If i had said that, i'm sure one of these ex-military guys would've been quick to correct me and call me out on my BS
you can have an opinion on anything you want, but if you're so sure that jail is an easy time and too cozy for inmates, then I suggest you need to spend a night there before you comment further

IT SHOULD BE.... THEY BROKE THE LAW.... i dont understand where people think they should have rights... i wish i lived in arizona near the tent city.. They should be make examples of and maybe some of the little crap that goes on wouldnt happen. I live in the Meth capital of the midwest..... all the time there are people getting busted for multiple charges... they spend a month in jail... get out.... and we read about them 2 months later getting busted again.... They shouldnt have soft couches.... they shouldnt have tv... they shouldnt drink anything but water.... If you are for changing the law that is one thing... i tend to agree with you on less sentencing for drug use and minor offenses... but if we are calling the law the law anyone who breaks it should pay for it...

we can agree to disagree. you realize that the majority of posts on here are purely opinion based very little on actual experience. That is the nature of a forum.
also, i never said that you stated iraq was a cakewalk. I know you wouldn't say that.

you do realize that 93% of all prisoners are eventually released back into society? So while they are there, we should make them forget that they are actually human? I would say you're preferred treatment would lead to more reoffenders.
I agree jail is about punishment, but the other part of jail that nobody thinks about is rehabiliation. GrimUSMC doesn't even think rehabiliation is possible. How are we going to correct the ills of society if we all think of is punishment & war? That's all you guys spew.
And where do you get the idea that there are soft couches in jail? You specifically are the one who got me into all this saying jail is not hard enough, it's a vacation, and has comfortable furniture...when i asked you for proof, all you said was show me proof it isn't....good one sir
ensberg, you are missing the point...badly
