this was one or the problems in the election. no matter what someone meant or what the truth was, if 1 person could interpret racism, then all **** broke loose. Bush was a "stupid redneck hillbilly" for 8 years and all the liberals just laughed and thought it was funny. Now a joke comes out that had nothing to do with Obama, and everything to do with "that bill could have been written by a bunch of monkeys" and we have protests in the streets calling for Murdoch's job and a boycott of the Post. You want to know the last time i saw something like this over a cartoon? Over in Iran when a belgian guy dared to have a cartoon depicting Muhammed. Wow, I love the direction this country is going.

i didnt say i had a problem with obama being compared to a gorilla....all i said was that it was in poor taste...personally, i found it funny...but essentially you've just outed yourself that you think the cartoon depicts obama
however, you cant compare the two....white people aren't usually compared in a negative way to gorillas

Yeah people made fun of Bush for being from Texas, and called him names for it, meaning since I'm from Texas I'm also those names. But I never whined about it. Even if they did mean it as an insult, I dont care. I'm not going to let petty BS get to me.

aint that the truth
Now a joke comes out that had nothing to do with Obama, and everything to do with "that bill could have been written by a bunch of monkeys" and we have protests in the streets calling for Murdoch's job and a boycott of the Post.
if the bill was written by a bunch of monkeys, then there should have been a bunch of monkeys in the cartoon...i've already stated in this post i doubt there was any intent...but the editor has to be smart enough to know that people are going to perceive it that way
people didn't make fun of Bush because he was from Texas...they made fun of him because he couldn't go a week without a speech of him stuttering, speaking erratically, or making no sense at all

No one in the mainstream media did, but others did. I've read it 2 or 3 times.

They made fun of Bush for the same reason all southerners are ridiculed. It is a perception that if you speak with a southern drawl that you are stupid.
This line of thinking to me is akin to being racist.Hidden Content

no, it is a perception that if you have an Ivy League education and you can't form a coherent thought that you are stupid...

I'm not buying it. Obama stutters as much if not more than Bush when he isn't reading off a teleprompter.

we will have to agree to disagree. if you watch everything from movies, to politics, southern people are easy targets for discrimination. A large part of Bush's critique came from his accent. In American media (tv, movies, etc), nothern accents (accept for boston) are viewed as smarter than southern accents.
